Download NetBeans!

And the winner is...

...nobody! Here's a small clue...

And, in case you're thinking "Photoshop", here's another one:

So, I've been studying Arabic in Egypt. I'm going to be here another week or so. I'm at the Qortoba Institute in Alexandria. I'm sharing an apartment with a guy from Syracuse called Lou Ruppert, who, believe it or not, was a lapsed NetBeans user when we first met. (In fact, he even had NetBeans IDE 4.0 Beta 2 on his laptop.) After I raved a bit about NetBeans IDE 5.0, he spent an hour and a half at an internet cafe, downloaded NetBeans IDE 5.0 Beta 2, imported his 4.0 Beta 2 sources, and has been using 5.0 Beta 2 ever since. (I gave him a 5 minute demonstration of module development, which really excited him. But he's mostly a web developer, on Linux with 192Mb, so everything is quite slow. But, because NetBeans IDE is modular, we very quickly disabled a lot of modules, including the J2EE module, which sped things up again.) Because there's not very much to do here (we're kind of in a pretty staunchly religious area where even beer is hard to come by) I've spent a lot of time watching movies on the Movie Time channel, while Lou has spent quite a bit of time programming (in NetBeans IDE 5.0 Beta 2, of course). We've found a couple of bugs and usability issues and I've been trying to help out where I can while watching movies. So, I must be the only person in the world to have said: "Maybe you should just delete the user directory" in the middle of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

By the way, guess what t-shirt I'm wearing in the pics above?

Happy New Year!
