A different way of starting the IDE

Drag and drop a desktop icon of a file onto the NetBeans desktop icon...

...and the IDE will start up, with the specified file open in the editor. That's always been possible, but is [as far as I am aware] completely unknown.

Hi,

I have been following your blog, for quite some time and this fact was really unknown, thanks for discovering it.

Well, there's one more thing, when NB is running, one can easily drag 'n' drop the file to the NetBeans Editor Panel, the document opens up.

It's a cross-plateforme, cross-software tips ;-)

This does not seem to work for me on the Mac (Leopard, with Java 1.5.0_13). On the other hand, as Varun noted, I can DnD the file into the editor area once NetBeans is started.

The questions is whether I can compile the file once I have it open?
