Shot From the Hip

Eating in Israel

Alright, last post was kinda serious. This next post is dedicated my other pastime on vacation, food.  So far there are more pictures in my food gallery than the other 2 combined.  [Food in Israel]

The one food I enjoyed the most my entire trip was hummus.  Who knew chickpeas and sesame could be so tasty.  Hummus was good with everything.  It became my default sauce to go with fries, meat, vegetables and etc, even though hummus isn't really a sauce.

No trip to the Middle East would be complete without the falafel sandwich

The white sauce is a sesame sauce called tahini.  That sauce is so good I could drink it.  I think I squirted half the bottle into my sandwich.

Next is shawarma

Meat on a stick.  Hard to get wrong.

You can get it on a plate with vegetables,

 in a pita sandwich,

or my favorite, with hummus.

Absolutely could not get any better.

Here's a different version with fattier meat.

Here's a pic of the whole meal

The stuff next to the meat and hummus are the salads.  I know I gained weight. Who knows how much.

Beverage-wise, I still didn't like Turkish coffee because of the cardamom they add.  I do have to respect them for their coffee grinders though

Too bad I already have a grinder back at home.

Also common were the kebabs.  Fries were also popular.  Must be for the tourists.

Here are some additional random pics:

Hebron is apparently one of the few places you can sell camel meat.  Notice the picture of Saddam in the background.

Fish from the Sea of Galilee.  Not pleasant looking but tasted good, though bony.

I have no idea what it is, but apparently its a mountain of spices.

I won't go through every meal as you can look through the gallery on your own.  One thing I did learn in Israel is that they are serious people.  How do I know? <knee> They eat fools for lunch.</slap>

Yes I know, corny.

Hey Karen. Yeah, when I'm in vacation mode, I don't impose my normal limits.
