2004-06-22 is the Dragon-Boat Festival

The Chinese Dragon Boat Festival is a significant holiday celebrated in China, and the one with the longest history.

The boat races during the Dragon Boat Festival are traditional customs to attempts to rescue the patriotic poet Chu Yuan. Chu Yuan drowned on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month in 277 B.C. Chinese citizens now throw bamboo leaves filled with cooked rice into the water. Therefore the fish could eat the rice rather than the hero poet. This later on turned into the custom of eating zongzi.
(Zongzi: glutinous rice dumpling;dumpling made of glutinous rice wrapped in bamboo or reed leeves)

But I didn't eat zongzi yesterday. I had Subway BMT sandwich for supper instead.

1 hour before, Italy's UEFA EURO 2004 campaign ends at the group stage despite victory as Denmark and Sweden draw in Porto. Unbelievable game, Jonson of Sweden kicked a goal at 89 min, Cassano of Itlay kicked a goal at 90+4 min. Sweden's late equaliser made Cassano's last-gasp winner academic. Italy got 5 pts and didn't lose any match, but they were out. Winner is not enough.

Comments:

the problem is Italy's Series A league. their games are always typically low-scoring affairs, with amazing defenders. when brought to an international tournament, this carries over into a great win-loss record with a poor goal difference. i agree, it's sad...they had a tough group with Denmark & Sweden. :(
