perma-
after revamping the jxta.org download site and followed by coercing jnlp builds in by hand coupled with colorful metaphors it hit me upside the head like a pound of dairy free cool whip that i should build the webstart dist as well ... every night, all the time. nonstop alpha. perma-alpha. hmmmmmmmm, tasty. with full and functional builds occuring nightly folks get to readily test out new features, we get excellent and timely feedback, piloting new features is trivial and, best of all, generating release builds is just a subtle one off from the nightly process ... explicitly not a life altering event. further, given myjxta intersects with a number of communities (eg jdnc, freetts, etc.) this process makes it really easy to pilot functional collaborations to all involved that would otherwise be rather challanging. i am perma-happy :)

myjxta 2.3.1a :: chat about it
just pushed out the 2.3.1a release of myjxta, which is a reference < href="http://jxta.org">jxta application that includes alot of fun features, including: note: speech-to-text coming soon it would be ultra k3w1 if marymary gave this build a go. now that would make my day. funny thing is that everytime i'm in the same room as mary i end up with a beer in my hand. case in point: not sure how or why that happens but i like it ... i like it alot! i mean, i do show up in other pics from time to time with no visible signs of beer'age in hand but whenever mary is in the house i'm pounding a beverage of some sort. hey mary, don't be so shy. i could use more beer(s) in my life :) btw, i'm on the verge of spilling the beans on the modus operandi regarding my stealthness. this will be earth shattering neew. soon. i promise.

divablog and webmink hosted a most excellent "os" conference earlier this week. nothing like getting the playaz together for a spin. great info all around. having just returned from nice break i was looking forward to attending the discusison but found out, rather late in the evening, that i was actually slated as a participant. being one who feels most comfortable in small'ish gatherings with beers in hand i was, well, scrambling for all of 2 minutes untill i realized i was all yo'd up on antihistamines and the like (allergies, colds oh my) and that it ain't nothing but a thing. the day was excellent. *way* better then the day before where my beloved firewall decided to spew chunks. got to meet some great folks, new and old alike, like doc, duncan, wilfredo, daniel, zak and others. good times. the panels went well, from my perspective at least. time sure does fly whilst being under the microscope. i would've liked to have dived deeper into more real world jxta use cases as a model describing rapid adoption, on the order of weeks at times, and subsequent deployment of new thought provoking applications, etc. there are so many dimensions to jxta it can be hard, with the clock ticking, to give the topic justice, at least from a broad perspective. none the less it was fun. being a fan of xp much of "how to opensource" just feels pretty obvious to me. just don't be stupid, do your best and when $hit happens don't sweat the details. dinner was amazing. sauteed pacific seabass ... hmmmmmmm. much appreciated.

back to the real world post a really nice 2w break. we took a road trip to colo, my home state. trey visisted with cousins, new and old. my moms house has been fixed up nicely thanks in large part to a skilled brother in law. we tooled around town with our bikes, trey on a trail-behind. good times. trey caught 2 fish whilst stream fishing with my dad way back (ie 4x4 country) in the western slope hills where my family has resided for generations, literally settling there with the founding fathers. i'm sure pulling out real fish after "play fishing" in our koi pond was quite a suprise to the lad. we cooked the fish on the spot. good times. i didn't quite summit as planned but i did climb to 12,800' (of 13k) which i felt quite good about coming from sea level and all. at the 12k point i found several rock shelters that look to be overnight camp sites. these were welcome stopping points as the terrain was pure rock from the 11k mark on up. in fact, the trail was simply smaller rocks winding about larger rocks to the point of where i stopped the trail was replaced with a singular technical ridge traversal all of 600y to the summit. i was running out of water, daylight and moxy. that and the words of the one person with whom i crossed paths with that day said it took him 2hr to decend 1k from the summit resonated in my ears. so close yet so far. upon returning to camp (at 10k) trey asked "daddy, why did you climb that hill?" to which i replied "to get these rocks for you" handing him two little colorful rocks i picked up at the turning point. he was amazed. i felt good. trey got a cold on the return trip that, in turn, hit me hard yesterday. trey is an amazing traveller, riding in the back of my toyota extra-cab for the 1k mile trip (one way) with very little fuss, even while being a bit under the weather. read cube farm. great book. easy read. unfortunate reality best managed with awareness, humor and tenacity. gems galore, eg "if your boss substitutes consensus building for leadership, be afraid." reality:on.
