MyJXTA Luv :: chat about it
first day back from a most excellent 2w vacation! i'll blog what the fam and i did over vacation in a bit but till then ... what a way to start the new year. myjxta made the swing sightings listing. very cool! beyond that, mary mary shared a bit'o myjxta blog love today that really rocked the house! so cool. so very cool! getting new eyes and ideas injected into the work flow is always appreciated. in general, folks seemed to really like the app. webstart has always been my fave deployment option and the feedback on that regard was extremely positive. general app usage comments were very positive as well with one quote being: [dc2daylight@08:47:22] This beats any chat client I've ever used. stop some more will ya! way to make my day! i'll take two helpings of that please! tbray and dlacher mused about irc-like support: [Tim Bray@10:54:42] /me wonders if IRC lingo works there actually is "directive" (my term) support in the form of /ban foo and /unban foo ... a directive that has come in handy. needless to say, more work is required to support the suite of irc-like commands but rest assured, the framework is in place, we just need the finger cycles.
re the jnlp distribution size: [Tim Bray@10:53:20] So, you click MaryMary, this kicks off about 8 program launches, tens of meg of downloads... results ain't instant but... what can i say ... i likes the jars! there actually is a no frills myjxta available on the nightlies page that comes in just a smidge over 1M ... but it isn't near as fun :) re webstart/jnlp, there is no other way to deploy an app in my book. the webstart folks completely rock! webstart is an amazing deployment model. phillepe gently urged us to complete the docs: [Philippe@01:37:43] If you want a killer app... write a killer manual. no argument from me. we welcome contributions of all kinds via myjxta. most of the folks i have communicated w/ re myjxta we simply use myjxta to work the issues. that and the dev lists and issues db and it ... well ... just works! don't be shy. speak up. change the world! the webmink made a showing as well, although i didn't get a chance to chat w/ the lad. lastly, this appears to be my 100th bsc entry. this feels like a day chock full of milestones. all in all, this is a great way to start as my first official work day of '05.
