Adding Google Calendar Entries from Thunderbird

For the past many months I have been using Google Calendar as my default calendar. I stopped using the internal Calendar Sever because of the time it took to create and maintain entries. Most times I find the need to create calendar entries when reading email (meeting requests and so on). If it takes too long to create an entry I wont do it on the spot and that means I need to come back to that email all over again (which I usually forget!). Google Calendar's "Quick Add" is awesome. Typing "Meet with xyz at 11am on thursday" is simpler than typing and clicking away at six or seven fields in a webform.

The problem I still have with this setup is I use Thunderbird for my email and to create a calendar event I have to switch to my browser, go to the calendar tab and add the entry. That is a context switch I dont want! What I would really like is a Thunderbird extension that allows me to create a Google Calendar entry  while reading a mail (press a key, get a small popup, type your calendar entry, enter and you are back to the mail). With Google Calendar api it should certainly be possible. I wonder if someone has already done this?
