Understanding Redshift

Monday Jul 09, 2007

This diva has been doing some reading up on Redshifting because it is a huge focus for us at Sun.

Web 2.0 Companies running new services via the network and individual departments within Fortune 2000 enterprises need more network bandwidth, more network scale and higher performance compute power than Moore's Law can accommodate. This new persuit for compute power, which Sun calls Redshift, means massively scaled out, but highly optimized and secure network infrastructure to run these services.

Here are some interesting websites I found in my internet travels regarding Sun Microsystems and Redshifting:

* Greg P, Sun's CTO, presentation (video) from Sun's analyst summit

* Dan Berg's blog "Redshifting the Sun"

* Infoworld Blog: "Sun puts "Sparc" into Web 2.0 - Company aims its Redshift initiative at expanding network loads"

Enjoy!
