Tag... we're it! The Divas revealed. Part 1
Thursday Jan 25, 2007
As you know, there are two Divas that contribute to this weblog. While we make it a point to keep the mystery going and not reveal who writes which entry, we were tagged by the boss (not Bruce Springsteen, but our real boss from New Jersey), so now we must each tell the world five things about ourselves. I'm going first, then you'll hear from the other Diva in a couple of days. Please read through to the end to see if you are "it" next!
Here you go...
1) In 1995 I got my big break at Sun while managing a team of marketing reps and senior engineers to deliver the 1st Java Day ever. I relied on many of Sun's NYC innovative thinkers including my current manager, Hal Stern, to help create the content and messaging. Since this was the "unofficial" launch of Java, we did not have any support from Sun's corporate office. In fact, Hal has a framed email from Bill Joy hanging in his office in which Bill asks us to hold off on the event as the timing wasn't right for the Java launch. We ignored the email and even persuaded Eric Schmidt to present. Once Bill heard about the overwhelming response from around the world, he agreed to fly to NYC and participate as the surprise guest to an audience of 1200 customers, press, analysts and Sun employees at the Equitable building in NYC. That was one of my most exciting and rewarding projects at Sun!
2) Painting is one of my hobbies. Watercolors, not house painting. This painting of Bodiam Castle is hanging prominently in my dining room and I've been waiting 2 years for one of my house guests to notice the signature and shower me with compliments (always a Diva)! The painting is from a photo I snapped while visiting the castle in England and it kept me busy the entire 9 months of my pregnancy.
3) I am quickly approaching my 13 year anniversary at Sun. I have had the opportunity to work in marketing, management, as a sales rep on the Merrill Lynch account team and in my current role as part of a job share duo as the internal communication manager for Sun's Global Systems Engineering organization. Prior to joining Sun, I did a couple of stints as a programmer at Chase Bank and S.G. Warburg. And if you ever called the technical help desk at Ingres, I may have assisted you with your 4GL woes. Don't try to guess my age, a Diva never reveals that info.
4) I love to travel -especially overseas. It all began when I went to France with the French club in high school. Lucky for me I married someone in the travel industry and we get great discounts. My husband works for Morgans Hotel Group which was founded by his former boss Ian Schrager (Remember Studio 54???).
5) I like to go out on the town in style and be seen. That said, I have sat in the front row for the following NY sports games: Jets (thanks Jon ), Yankees, Knicks, Rangers, US Tennis Open and the US Golf Open. It's the only way to go. Unfortunately, I've also sat in the last row. My 3 yr old daughter is training for her role as a young Diva as she has already sat in the front row for Sesame Street Live and 2 Tom Chapin concerts!
Now it's my turn to tag some of my favorite bloggers: Jeremy Barnish, Dave Levy and SeChang Oh.
TAG - you're IT!!
