A Diva's Farewell to Yankee Stadium
Monday Sep 22, 2008
The Yankees played (and won) their last game at Yankee stadium last night.
I haven't been to a game at Yankee Stadium in at least 5 years, but I am still sad at the thought of saying goodbye to the House that Ruth Built.
Now I am a "Jersey Girl", but I was born in the Bronx and grew up in a Yankee household. My parents thought it was cute to have me recite the Yankee lineup when I was learning to speak as a very young child. My first words were: Mel Stottlemyre (don't guess my age).
Thanks to my dad's position at Chase Manhattan Bank, I had the opportunity to sit in the front row in back of the Yankee dugout a few times. In true Diva form, I arrived several hours early so I could flirt with the players before the game. It worked.
I can't wait until my dad takes my daughter to her first Yankee game at the new Yankee stadium and they create memories of their own. They have already started - when she was 2 she told me that her poppy was mad because the "ankees" lost a game, those "bums".
Maybe they will even get my husband (Mets fan) to join them.
Go Yankees!

Your husband maybe trying to convert you next year...
