Fixing or adapting automated tests
Helge Delfs

With adding module testautomation ( all automated testscripts ) to CWS process there is something to keep in mind:
If there are changes neccessary to automated test scripts due to bug fixing or adding features in OpenOffice.org/StarOffice one must assure
that automated tests have to be adapted before a CWS is set to 'ready for QA' state. This is a must because testing procedure starts with
'ready for QA' state of a CWS and it makes no sense to fix issues within test scripts while in testing phase because it would lead to
inconsistency in testresults.

Please call testscript developers in planning and implementing features or bugfixes as early as possible (of course this includes writing an
issue to script developer also) if you are not sure (QA and Development) if an automated test should be adapted or enhanced. Without doing this
'ping-pong' of a CWS ( ready for QA <-> new ) is guaranteed. A responsibilities list can be found here to chum up with:
http://qa.openoffice.org/ooQAReloaded/AutomationTeamsite/ooQA-TeamAutomationResp.html

Thanks for your support !

ODF@WWW - Becoming an (Incubator) Project
Kay Ramme
Hi OOo Folks,

one or the other may already have heard of a pet project of mine, namely the "ODF@WWW". One important milestone for this effort is becoming an Incubator Project.

Hereby I officially like to announce, that I am heading for ODF@WWW becoming an Incubator Project.

That means that later on I am going to ask you to show your interest and to vote for ODF@WWW, this is required as of our policies.

If you think that this desire is no valid, or otherwise flawed, please reply (either publicly or privately, at your convenience).

To get your interest and hopefully your support, I would like to give the motivation:

"The ODF@WWW project aims to develop companion products for ODF and OpenOffice.org to extend their reach into the WWW. The first planned product is an ODF Wiki, allowing to edit server side ODF documents WYSIWYG with the OpenOffice.org application suite, providing HTML and ODF access via HTTP respectively WebDAV, actually making the WWW as easy editable as classical documents, such as text documents, spreadsheets, presentations or drawings."

I already created some pages in the OOo Wiki around ODF@WWW, where you can find all the details, including a screencast and installation instructions for the prototype.

Thanks for listening and support

Kay

Template Browser
Bettina Haberer

As this is my first blog at Gullfoss I like to give a short introduction of myself. I am a member of the User Experience team of Sun Microsystems in Hamburg and I am working on OpenOffice.org in different areas.

Today I would like to introduce the upcoming OpenOffice.org template browser.
A typical user scenario is a quick search for a single template and to use it immediately.
Currently we have templates available only as template pack extensions in the extension repository, each with an amount of templates the user needs first to sight respectively sort out those ones he does not need.

The template browser will provide the download and upload of templates which are accessible as single documents. 'Download' means in this context to select a template, which opens in the appropriate OpenOffice.org application.

Finding certain templates is provided by some main categories with their subcategories. Furthermore search results can be narrowed down e.g. by selection of the application type or the period of availability. The results and the user interface can be shown in dependence of a selected language.

In a next release these features will be offered from within the OpenOffice.org via a redesigned “Templates and Documents”-dialog so that the user can interact with the web site content directly from within the user interface and work online and offline on his templates.

I hope I have raised your curiosity. :)

ODF@WWW - Some State
Kay Ramme

Just as to give a brief overview on ODF@WWW.

This is the YouTube video I uploaded a while ago, it has been watched roughly a 3000 times :-) Recently I uploaded it to the Sun Learning eXchange as well, quality seems to be much better. The genuine version can be found on http://mediacast.sun.com as 720p here.

Here an article by Dmitri Popov published on linux.com and some references to it:

http://www.topix.com/business/accounting/2008/08/turn-openoffice-org-into-a-web-editing-tool-with-odf-www

These are the blog entries I posted on GullFOSS:

ODF@WWW - An ODF Wiki http://blogs.sun.com/GullFOSS/entry/odf_www_an_odf_wiki
ODF@WWW - How it Works http://blogs.sun.com/GullFOSS/entry/odf_www_how_it_works
ODF@WWW - Simly Install http://blogs.sun.com/GullFOSS/entry/odf_www_simply_install
ODF@WWW - Going Forward http://blogs.sun.com/GullFOSS/entry/odf_www_going_forward

They have been viewed some thousand times, unfortunately I don't have the numbers at hand.

There are some other blogs, which jumped on my postings (some are foreign, such as Rumanian or Japanese :-)

Some comments from various mailing lists and personal mails on ODF@WWW:

- "Wow this is really amazing, finally someone came up with some of my pipe dreams :)"
- "It's an excellent idea, and it is, as you pointed out the tip of the iceberg: what you demoed is the future of OOo."
- "This is great! For wikis to really get used by normal users for company intranets, they need this kind of easy-to-use interface, just as you've developed here!"
- "Outstanding functionality, congrats! I think this is the future ..."
- "This is quite clever indeed. However, to make it really cool it ..."
- "Awesome! (Hey, and the soundtrack was great too)."
- "OHMYGOD! M$ is gonna be so over it!"
- "We really appreciate what you're doing."
- "It’s a great start, and I am looking forward to what Ramme develops next with this project."
- "This is way cool."
- "Congratulations for implementing the ODF@WWW feature. It is really amazing."

Here are the installation instructions and here is the code.

Last but not least I got deployment requests from prominent web sites :-) , which I certainly would like to satisfy, unfortunately the ODF@WWW not is not yet production ready.

 Regards

Kay

New: OOo-Dev 3.0 Developer snapshot (build OOO300_m4) available
Joost Andrae

OOo-Dev3.0 Developer Snapshot build OOO300_m4 which installs as OOo-Dev 3.0 has been uploaded to the mirror network.

The rename of the product name to OOo-Dev allows the installation of the OpenOffice.org snapshot parallel to an OpenOffice.org  'final' (released) version. For this version the usual language packs de, fr and ja have been uploaded and they should install into the OOo-Dev installation. Please note that language packs are not yet available for Mac OS X.

If you find severe issues within this build please file them to OpenOffice.org's bug tracking system IssueTracker and if you believe this is a show stopper then please notify the releases mailing list.

Automated testing of branch OOO300 up to release
Helge Delfs

With availability of Milestone m4 on branch OOO300 (OpenOffice.org 3.0) automation team - as always on a way to a release - starts to test each milestone based on a matrix.
In the past 2 weeks automation team was employed with fixing all their automated tests and with integration of CWS 'greenstatever2' we expect to have most of automated tests with non-failure results. In case of errors found by test scripts beginning with m4 they have to be close analyzed as they may be failures in OpenOffice.org. Please contact script owners if an error was found. For all potential errors in test scripts a CWS will be created to fix them and have fixes available in following milestone.
All results of automated tests are collected in QUASTe 1 and are available to everyone to see what has been tested. An overview of what should be tested one can take a look on the matrix 2

The way of testing available builds has been modified a little against previous releases.
English and German installsets are tested with automated tests of category 0 (English version by MWS testers 3, German version by German community members) while other languages are tested with tests of Category 1-3 4 by module owners 5 on selected platforms and languages.

All community members are invited to run automated tests on platforms and languages of their choice. This should be tests of category 0 at first. See matrix what selection fits best to you.

If you have any questions please contact dev@qa.openoffice.org or responsible testers.

Thanks for your support.
