Second Life Millionaire

Interesting article by Rob Hof of BusinessWeek today profiling Second Life's "first millionare."

He writes, "Anshe Chung, the virtual land baroness that I highlighted in my cover story earlier this year, My Virtual Life, has apparently become the first millionaire in Second Life.
That's millionaire in real U.S. dollars. Her real-world persona, Ailin
Graef, figures her net worth based on her substantial in-world land
holdings, cash in "Linden dollars," which can be converted to real
cash, as well as virtual shopping malls, store chains, and even virtual
stock-market investments in Second Life businesses."

What's really funny is that the cover of BusinessWeek (check it out here) is an avatar!

Duke Jeans Jacket (more clothes for Second Life)

My latest piece of clothing for Second Life.  Like the t-shirts, this jacket fits either men or women and is available for free at my Second Life house.  Just click on the box and it's yours.  Click on this link to teleport to my SL House. (must have Second Life on your computer for the link to work)

This jacket was created using a template available on the official Second Life website and an open source Duke logo.

Branding team blessed my Second Life Sun T-shirts

The Sun branding folks officially "blessed" my Duke and OpenSolaris T-shirts, so feel free to stop by my SL house (Hill of Hope 229, 29, 22) and grab them.   I'm also told that they fit fine on both male and female avatars.  Any suggestions for additional T's?  (Yes, Mike, I saw your Linux request.  ;) )  I'm thinking my next project might be a Duke tattoo!

Open Solaris t-shirt for Second Life

I made an Open Solaris, love at first boot, t-shirt for Second Life.  If you're on SL, feel free to drop by my house and take a copy of this and the Duke T for free.  Fits both men and women (I think... someone with a male avatar please check it out). My house on SL is at Hill of Hope 229, 29, 22 or just search for "Helzerman" under places and click on teleport.

Find the free T's under the Christmas tree.  :)

Avatar seeks same for...

Now I've seen it all..... Saw this ad for a Second Life based dating service today.....

Hi.  Are you tired of trying to start conversations with random Avatars who don't respond?  Wouldn't you like an easy way to meet other Avatars (or first lifers) with whom you can have a meaningful connection, engage in interesting conversation, share fun experiences?  Well I am here to facilitate this.  You can submit to me a short questionnaire about your Avatar, the types of other Avatars you are interested in connecting with,  what your interests, personality traits, likes and dislikes are, and what type of a connection you are seeking.  Then I will "match" you with an Avatar with whom you can connect.

I've moved (in Second Life that is)

As if mentioned to some folks, my land on Second Life has become surrounded by casinos and some neighbors with rather loud signs.  Since I use my space for playing around with scrips and meeting up with friends, etc. I decided to move to a residential-only island.  Here's a snapshot of the new space.

Strangeness on Second Life - hack?

I went to check out some land Pickle Realty had for sale on and got a surprise - among the numerous Pickle signs was a photo of !  This raises the following questions and issues:

1.  Was Pickle's land hacked (perhaps they were silly enough to leave permissions open so people could place objects)... or is Pickle sending a grim message?

2.   One really ought to have a look at land before they buy it.

In the United States, many neighborhoods have home ownership associations that place rules around doing something that can bring down the property value of other's land (such as painting your house purple and black).  There are also zoning laws that would not apply to someone's house color or political posters, but would, for example, keep someone from opening up an adult shop in your cul de sac. How should this work in Second Life?

The Second Life Police Blotter on SL's website displays the 25 most recent disciplinary actions
taken by the Second Life Abuse Team.  Some funny and odd stuff in there.

Analyst firm Illuminata blogs on Sun Second Life conference yesterday

Illuminata has posted a blog entry on Sun's Second Life-based conference yesterday.  It's a good write up with his (Jonathan Eunice) observations on the conference itself as well as on Second Life as a meeting venue in general.  By the way, the Hajia Engawa person he mentions is me.  Hajia is my SL screen name, so be sure to look for me next time you're at the Sun Pavilion.  :-)

Wired tour of Second Life

Speaking of Second Life, check out the tour in Wired Magazine.

Second Life gets new round of funding

with Jeff Bezos, Benchmark Capital, Catamount Ventures, Mitch Kapor,
and the Omidyar Network", according to VC blog, alarm:clock

According to the street.com, as of last month, "there were 10,356 profitable SL business owners.
That number has been rising by an average of 12% over the previous five
