Gumming up your provider's network w/Java ME technology

This line of reasoning of why Steve Jobs doesn't want Java ME on an iPhone is so ludicrous that it's actually comical. (Thanks to Dan Green for pointing out this quote)

See:

Stevie-boy says Java ME can bring down West Coast Network

Here's a quote:

'You don’t want your phone to be an
 open platform,' meaning that anyone
can write applications for it and
 potentially gum up the provider's
network, says Jobs. 'You need it to
work when you need it to work.
Cingular doesn’t want to see their
West Coast network go down because
 some application messed up.'"
Now, if someone can actually write a Java ME application that can "mess up" and bring down Cingular's "West Coast network", I'd like to see it. The Department of Homeland Security would probably like to see it too. Maybe, Steve Jobs, since he knows Java ME technology oh, sooooooo well can whip out a Java ME MIDlet that demonstrates his claim.

Or, maybe he's exaggerating just an eensy bit, dontcha think?
