Using Java ME technology for the greater good
If you think that Java ME technology is used for just fun and games on cell phones, think again. The UN Foundation has released a report on how Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) use cell phones and Java ME technology to help with social activism around the world. See: Use Java ME tech for world activism Here's a quote: ...thirty provincial health supervisors... were trained in how to use EpiSurveyor... The health officers then used EpiSurveyor to collect management data about public health clinics... In Zambia... the supplied PDAs and EpiSurveyor software were used by health officers to conduct a post-measles vaccination campaign coverage survey... EpiSurveyor incorporates... a Java-based engine that can run on personal digital assistants (PDAs), smart phones, and soon, common mobile phones. That's very noble. You don't see much of other technologies with this type of reach and ability to effect the world we live in. |
