Brains! BRAINS! Java ME tech wants your BRAINS!!!

If you want to keep in shape, you have to exercise. And, if you want to keep your brain in shape, you have to download this Java ME game for your cell phone.

See:

You're a brainiac, brainiac

Here's a quote:

 Your brain is the best
 opponent for stimulating
 your mind!
Hmm... If your brain is the best opponent for stimulating your mind, what happens when you want to play 2-on-2?

What to do, what to do... during JavaOne

If you're coming to the JavaOne 2009 conference this year in San Francisco, you'll want to know where to go, what to do... with emphasis on Java ME technology that is. :-) So, why not check out Terrence Barr's list of things to see and do at JavaOne 2009?

See:

Terrence Barr's Guide to JavaOne

Here's a quote:

 ...CommunityOne West and JavaOne.
Now it's time to delve into
 details - with a mobile/media/
 embedded focus, of course!

This post is a work in progress.
 Latest updates:
And, with all your free time leftover from all that, you can head over to the Pavilion and check out the booths. No, the big screen TVs are not free give-aways...

Nokia Ovi App Store, not just a disaster, a COMPLETE disaster

Here's a Washington Post piece (via TechCrunch) about how the Nokia Ovi App Store launch today was not just a disaster, but a complete disaster (their words).

See:

A Total Failure

Here's a quote:

 Today sees the worldwide roll-
out of Nokia's Ovi Store, the
 company's response to Apple's
 App Store... Here's the thing:
the launch is an utter disaster
 and I assume (hope) Nokia
 executives are outraged with
 the way things are going.
Everyone knows the first rule of proper engineering is to plan for the Worst-Case Scenario (not the typical or best case scenario). Heck, even Scotty from Star Trek multiplies his worst-case scenarios by a factor of four to be safe. Well, not every company instills good engineering I guess.

What if there was a store where you could buy--Java..?

What would happen if someone opened up a store where you could buy Java? Wait... oh, yeah. That's what a cafe is, isn't it? No, not that kind of Java? Hey. There's an idea...

See:

Buy Java Here

Here's a quote:

There are a few factors that
could work in Sun's favor. The
 company's JavaFX framework—
 which aims to bring richer
 client application development
 capabilities to Java—could make
 it a bit more competitive.
During my own tests, I've found
 that JavaFX is conducive to
 rapid development... The
 availability of a convenient
 distribution channel might also
 boost the attractiveness of Java
 as a development platform...
Java, get yer Java here! Hot fresh and delish, Java!

Place yer bets on Gambling from a Java ME cell phone

Here's an article on the top 10 Java ME tech-enabled cell phones to use for mobile gambling. All of the top 10 are Java ME tech-enabled phones.

See:

Java ME for cell phone gambling

Here's a quote:

Players wishing to jump on the
 digital and handheld bandwagon
for mobile gaming need to make
 sure that their mobile device
 (cell phone, Blackberry, PDA or
 smart-phone) must be Internet/
Java ready and enabled on their
 device.

From there it's a matter of
checking to see if the casino
you want to play supports your
 phone model.
Just remember: Whatever happens on your Java ME cell phone, stays on your Java ME cell phone.

New Java ME game: Mermaids Millions... with ZOMBIES!!!

How do you ensure that your Java ME game will sell really well? Just combine two popular terms together, like "Mermaids" (scantily clad female fish-like people) and "Millions" (as in millions of dollars you can win on a slot machine). Heck, why not add a third term (my idea), "Mermaids Millions... with ZOMBIES!!!" :-) Eh, not as good, huh?

See:

Mermaids Millions... with ZOMBIES!!!

Here's a quote:

 Mermaids Millions is the first
game from Spin3 to be made
 available on a JAVA platform
 and as a web-based application
at the time of launch. This
 move illustrates Spin3's
 commitment to providing the
 most advanced games to the
 industry's newest devices, as
 well as the traditional handset
 market.
Cool. Commitment to providing the most advanced games to the industry's newest devices... with ZOMBIES!!! :-)

 in different versions with
 different capabilities. For J2ME
 enabled (Java) phones, there is
 Glogger Lite 2.2...
All I could think of during writing this blog post is that Bill S. just sent out a message saying that there are cupcakes on the 3rd floor... Cupcakes!!!

Old and Busted vs. New Hotness

Why drive an old and busted Java ME MIDlet when you can program the new hotness instead. Old and busted, ...new hotness. Old and busted... new hotness.

See:

Drive the new hotness, JavaFX Mobile

Here's a quote:

 Many developers who code for
the Java ME platform are eager
 to enhance their MIDlets with
 JavaFX technology to take
 advantage of its modern
 features and enrich the user
 experience of their
 applications. Moving your
 MIDlet into JavaFX software
 can enable you to create
 richer and more interactive
 user interfaces
Whichever way, you do the driving.

Finding that Nemo adds more new Java ME apps

That crazy clownfish cartoon character named company is at it again creating new Java ME rich graphical apps for your cell phone, now including Yelp and YouTube for your mobile device.

 Everypoint, the company bringing
 rich, always-on services to mobile
 application development, today
 announced the availability of new
 Yelp and YouTube applications
 developed using the breakthrough
 mobile application development
 platform, Nemo.
Cool. Using these new Nemo apps, you can search for vindictive and biting reviews of the nearest borderline health dept inspected bakery and watch a video of the evolution of dance at the same time.

When spontaneous line dancing happens, life is like a Java ME musical

Dontcha just love it when spontaneous line dancing happens and life becomes like a scene from a musical? I do (my wife does too). And, you'll notice that when people such as the ones in this video see a musical breaking out in real-life, at a Belgium train station, what do they do first? Why, they reach for their Java ME tech-enabled cell phones, of course, to take pictures, videos clips, and then IM it to their friends. :-)

See:

Life is like a Do Re Mi musical

When you sing you begin with, "Do, Re, Java ME"...

Be a Java ME tech-enabled fireman

Have you ever wanted to be a fireman? C'mon, you know every kid has fantasized about being the heroic fireman busting down doors, rescuing screaming people out of burning buildings. Well, here's your chance to do all that, without the burning buildings part of course. And, all in the safety of your own cell phone.

See:

Go! Go! Rescue Squad Java ME game

Here's a quote:

If you want to be a hero
 in real life though, your
 choices are more limited.
 To hanging around disused
 mine shafts waiting for
someone to fall in so you
 can then rescue them, for
 instance. Or waiting by
 suicide hotspots hoping
you might be able to talk
 someone out of jumping.

 Or, of course, you could
just get a job... as a
 fireman - which is what
 Go! Go! Rescue Squad is
 all about.
Why they have to name this game with the double-use of the word "Go!" as their prefix, I will never understand. Yeah, it's like the game, "Dance, Dance, Revolution". So nice, they use the word twice. Go! Go! Download this game.

The Quattro, old and famous puzzle
 game, with multiplayer feature.
Well, yeah, OK, this is not a Mexican game, technically. It's in Farsi. And, Quattro is not the same as the Spanish word, Cuatro. But, work with me here! It's Java ME.

Yap, yap, yap: Java ME app lets you yap

Yippity yap. This Java ME app lets you speak into your cell phone to send IM text messages to all your friends on Facebook, MySpace, AIM, and Yahoo.

See:

Voice-to-IM your buddies

Here's a quote:

 IM+ with speech recognition will
 allow users to dictate their
 instant messages and send them
as text to their contacts in
 Facebook, AIM/iChat, MSN/Windows
 Live Messenger, Yahoo!, ICQ,
 Jabber, Google Talk and
 MySpaceIM. Recent studies
 indicate that over 70% of
 consumers prefer using voice...
 rather than typing.
Great. And, if people weren't annoyed already with folks yapping into their cell phones talking to the other people on the other end, now they have to put up with folks yapping into their cell phones to IM each other. Eh, not so bad if you know that Java ME technology is enabling all that to happen, right? ;-)
