Michael Jackson video game: Just beat it, just beat it

Rest-in-peace, Michael Jackson. Here's a video game in your honor. If someone has a pointer to a MAME emulator for a Java ME tech-enabled phone, let me know. This would be a good mobile tribute to the King of Pop.

Just beat it, just beat it

We'll miss you.

JavaFX Phone running on Java ME technology

Ting-ding, ding. Wah-wah-wah. Boom, chucka-wucka-wucka-wucka. Here's a techno soundtrack laden video showing how Matthew Sacks has it going on with JavaFX Mobile! Break it down now, Matthew!

See:

Matthew shows how it's all done running JavaFX Mobile on the HTC Diamond JavaOne 2009 show device (using our customized Java ME with JavaFX Mobile Embedded Player). For those who didn't come out to JavaOne this year to buy a limited edition JavaFX Mobile developer device... you snooze, you lose.

Land Rover S1: Xtreeeeme Java ME cell phone

The new Land Rover S1 is quite an extreme Java ME technology-enabled cell phone. Dust, dirt, shocks, drops? No prahhhh-blem.

See:

Land Rover S1 Java ME phone

Here's a quote:

 The Land Rover S1 is also completely
 waterproof to a depth of one metre
 for up to 30 minutes and is
 resistant to extreme pressure of up
 to 400 kgs...

 The current handset will come
 equipped with a 2Mega-Pixel
 waterproof camera with built-in
 flash, built-in GPS, torch light,
 FM radio, 2GB memory slot, J2ME Java
 for mobile...
Uhhhh... if your phone is underwater for 30 minutes, hate to tell you this: buuuut... you dead.

JavaFX Mobile looking Up

     Click on arrow to PLAY. Click on picture to PAUSE/RESUME. Note: If
     video playback is blank or slow, reload the page and make sure
     QuickTime 7.6 is installed on your system.

Wouldn't it be cool if JavaFX Mobile were on all handsets now and you could watch movie trailers from any cell phone?

Programming your cell phone to play a video would be trivial.

Code snippet:

var player = MediaPlayer {
  autoPlay: false
  media : Media {
    source : "{__DIR__}up-trailer.flv";
  }
}

var view:MediaView = MediaView {
    visible: true
    mediaPlayer: bind player
}

It's getting closer...

News from JavaOne: Now Verizon does Java ME tech; Who's next, Apple?

In case you missed it at the JavaOne 2009 conference last week, Verizon finally gave in and agreed to allow Java ME apps and games on their wireless network. They finally see the light and agree that there is high value for Java ME on cell phones. Now, we just have to wait until Apple finally has their epiphany on why they should put Java ME on their iPhone and iPod Touch.

See:

Verizon sees the light

Here's a quote:

 However, due to the carrier's
 newly opened stance toward
 networks and applications,
 he said Verizon Wireless will
 embrace Java technology--and
 will provide Java developers
 clear access to Verizon
 Wireless' network and
 customers.
Hallelujah! They see the light! The truth shines bright! :-)

Sun rallies mobile faithful with Java ME tech

Here's an article about Java Application Terminal Alignment Framework (JATAF), which is a way to ensure your Java ME app or game will run on various networks and handsets. Hey, what happened to all that fragmentation that everyone complains about? Poof! It just disappeared. :-) No wonder why Sun is rallying the mobile faithful...

See:

Unifying the Java ME platform

Here's a quote:

 Since the creation of Java
 ME, we've had CLDC and MIDP
 in an attempt to make sense
 of the chaos. And now, with
 Google and Apple exciting
 developers and service
 providers contemplating
 their own online stores for
 mobile, it's back to Java
 ME - only this time with
 unified testing.
It's good to know you're all coming back... eventually. :-)

For the few, the proud, the Orkut users, here's Java ME tech

While the rest of the world uses Facebook for social networking, for the 3 people in Brazil who happen to use Google's Orkut instead, there's a new Java ME tech-enabled app for their cell phones.

See:

Have at it Orkut users: Orkut Mobile

Here's a quote:

 Last year, Google released a
 mobile site for Orkut, and
 now they have released an
 Orkut Mobile App, which
 is available for most Java-
 enabled devices.
Hey, don't knock it. Google knows which mobile platform is the most important whether in the U.S., Europe, Asia, Brazil, or anywhere else in the world. You have to port your app to Java ME technology, or risk losing market share.
