Acquisition soothes the savaje beast

Java ME technology took another step toward total world domination yesterday with the acquisition of the technology from SavaJe, creator of a Java technology-based OS for cell phones.

See:

Java ME in the OS

Here's a quote:

 Sun Microsystems announced today that
it is acquiring the assets of SavaJe
 Technologies and will reveal further
details at its JavaOne conference next
month. SavaJe's claim to fame is its
 Java-based embedded operating system,
which was shown running in a mobile
 phone at JavaOne last May.
Now that we bought SavaJe, hopefully we can finally get rid of the silly misspelled capital letter "J" in the middle of their name. Or, else we're going to have to change our name for Java ME technology, to gava ME technology. You know... the law of conservation of letters in the universe and all that.

Nice spin you have there ;-) Savaje is a product looking for a niche...

Great idea Hinkmond - I'll take that over to the branding folks! Hmm.... On second thought I'm worried it may make people think of guava and lead to further spelling errors :)

Doesn't SavaJe support swing? I want to develop some mobile phone apps for our company to make life easier for our supervisors, however all the current phones seem to only support different subsets of JavaME and seem to be a challenge to support. Anyway this is a good move, long overdue, better than trying to use a Unix like kernel. Perhaps Sun could have another go at MAJC now.
