Sheesh! You can't turn around today without bumping into another story about GoogleFX Mobile (I know, I know, they like to call it Android, Open Platform for Mobile Devices (feh!), but I like shortening it to GoogleFX Mobile, OK?) :-) See: Here's a quote: The operating system, based on the open- source Linux platform and Sun Microsystems ...Java software, likely will compete with other mobile phone software platforms, such as Microsoft's Windows Mobile, Palm OS and Nokia's own Symbian. Android will be available on cell phones beginning next year.I really do hope they call it GoogleFX Mobile instead of Android. Android sounds so... robotic. :-)

I'm confused as to where the 'Java' is coming in. I didn't hear or see anything about Java during todays Android press conference. Can you enlighten us?

I'm not sure myself. I'm only quoting from the article from CNN Money, which says "The operating system, based on the open-source Linux platform and Sun Microsystems... Java software, likely will compete with other mobile phone software platforms..."
I've also seen it other places vaguely cited, such as:

What does it mean? Don't know. We'll see when the SDK comes out, though.
