Hey, wait a gosh-darn minute here... Someone sent me this screenshot of the recent iPhone SDK survey question on what platform mobile developers use. Do you notice anything missing? Hmmm... something like the most abundant mobile platform on earth? The mobile platform that is on 2+ billion (with a "b") cell phones? Sheesh, Stevie-boy, you must really be nervous about something! See: Maybe it was the Fake Steve Jobs who did this... I can't imagine the Real Steve Jobs being so worried about little 'ol Java ME technology, I DEE-clare! ;-) |

As a Mac Java developer (and a Dead Runner), I find this troubling. Apple seems to be distancing itself from Java in general and that's not a good thing.

Fabrizio Giudici posted a link to this blog entry in Apple's java-dev discussion list.
I think John Gruber's analysis of why the iPhone doesn't have Flash is a reasonable analysis and much of it could be applied to Java. Check it out.

It doesn't explain why they don't even *list* Java if they're listing all those other non-Apple, and proprietary, technologies. But still, food for thought.

Good to hear from you. Thanks very much for the John Gruber link. Good parallel to watch what Steve Jobs does with Flash for the iPhone.
BTW, Yes, I remember the days when we worked on EmbeddedJava and Jini. Times change, but I see you still snowboard! ;-)
