Wahhh, Microsoft crying like a little baby over Java ME technology
Microsoft is crying over the victory of Blu-ray. They would have to use Java ME technology from Sun if they were to put a Blu-ray DVD player in the Xbox 360. Well, it is possible that there wouldn't be as many bugs in their software if they did move all their Xbox 360 apps to Java ME. :-)
See:
Microsoft cryin' and a-cryin'
Here's a quote:
"The fundamental problem with Blu-ray
from the Microsoft point of view is
that it uses Java from Sun," says
Mercer. "I don't think Microsoft will
ever introduce a Blu-ray player for
the Xbox. They will just concentrate
on downloads."
Microsoft had a long-standing battle
with Sun over the licensing and
integration of Java in its products
and later built its own competing
products...
What the article fails to mention is that the Windows Mobile 6 cell phones (like the HTC Touch) come pre-installed with a Java ME VM. Must be that they're just colicky, eh?

Hi Hinkmond,
If you look up the English slang meaning for 'wanky', you'll realise how appropriate this is for the posturing of Microsoft!

The tone of this posting is just a little adolescent. Quite unbecoming of a Sun employee.

I had some problems posting my initial blog post and had 2 posts instead of just one.
I'm transferring the blog comments from the redundant posting here to delete that redundant one:

Sorry, but this really isn't the class of post I'd expect from a Sun colleague.

I think there's a slight misconception here; the comment about 'Java being the problem' is made by the journalist, not Microsoft.

Yawn, what's the big deal? So we all use Java technology every day. My cell phone runs Java. Who cares? We all use Microsoft technology every day too. My TV set top box runs Windows. My TV runs Linux. I usually don't have to see any of them. I just want them to all work and get along, and we engineers could get along too :-)

Wow! I didn't know I'd get so much reaction from this post. Golly! Thanks everyone for the comments. (I did a little editing to tone things down a bit so everyone doesn't get the wrong impression. I love Bill Gates! :-) Good Foundation he's got there). Don't take me too seriously, though. I'm just being trying to be a little controversial and swanky (without the "s"). ;-)
