Where is the Podcast I promised?

Here is a taste of what the Drive Time podcast will sound like.
The episode above is with Kwantlen University College a customer from British Columbia who deployed the 6920 Storage System in their heterogeneous environment. Listen to learn how they did it and why did they choose a Sun Storagetek Solution

We are recording this Friday. You are welcome to send any questions that you might have to drivetime-AT-sun.com - we will try to answer as many questions as we can in the last section of the show.

We'll have giveaways so register to the podcast and listen to them. We'll ask questions about the content and if you answer them correctly you can get one of our giveaways mailed to you and we will mention you in the podcast.

The upcoming topics are:

- Special Edition: Introducing our new hosts.
- Encryption
- Sun Cluster and Storage.

Stay tuned to learn more about the next episodes.

In the mean time I will give you the link to the current episodes. As I said before the next episodes will change drastically as we have secured two fantastic hosts!

The Fulbrights visiting Sun

Through the SOL@Sun (Society of Latinos @ Sun) community I had the wonderful opportunity to host a group of Fulbright Scholars from all over the world. They were visiting Sun and other high tech companies in the Silicon Valley with the purpose of learning about the culture and work opportunities within the industry. Fulbrights from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Tunisia, Morocco, Sweden, USA, India, Indonesia and many other nationalities were represented in the group. The talent that was available in that room was pretty impressive; ranging from extremely smart computer scientists to very well trained and quick MBAs.

They were not coming to the valley to necessarily stay as it would have happened a few years ago. They wanted to work and collaborate with a great Silicon Valley company but under their terms. Telecommuting and remote collaboration were really hot items for them. Luckily Sun has made this part of the culture for a long time – all with the purpose of being more flexible, quicker and innovative.

The group was so impressive that Jonathan popped in for a few minutes to talk to the crowd. It turns out Jonathan's father was a Fulbright and he was really excited that this group was visiting Sun. We also had James Gosling who was a big hit with this crew. James is a real rock star - among geeks!

I imagine this mix of races and cultures will be much more common in the Silicon Valley in the near future than it is today -- for the sake of innovation. Today you can see engineering teams collaborating across cultures, time zones and continents. Tomorrow – we need to stretch even more. We must open our doors to capitalize in ideas and innovation coming from all over the world. We need to embrace and unleash the creative side of human capital available at Sun and make our next steps bigger and even bolder.

Thanks to Jim Baty for hosting the meeting and to the Fulbright foundation for making this possible.

Welcome to Drive Time! The podcast that takes you in a journey into the Sun

The title of this initial post says it all. I started to think about different ways to reach out to you and I came to the conclusion that a blog and a podcast provides and excellent and interactive interface for us to start an honest conversation.

We started a pilot podcast about two months ago to see if you were interested...and thank god! - you are! We got thousands of downloads of our first seven episodes. Let me tell you that the first seven were produced as a test so the quality is far from optimal but they are worth listening to - we recorded our fearless leaders.

After I got the download numbers for the first few episodes I decided to extend this program to continue to reach out. To do that I needed to get a really good, knowledgeable and upbeat host - or two. luckily we have quite a bit of artistic talent in our organization and I was able to convince a couple of really interesting guys to host the show.

The podcast grew organically and the guests began to line up. We first had Kwantlen University who is a customer of ours. After that we had Vignette and Interwoven. Coming up we will be speaking to a customer that has deployed Sun Cluster and Storage. We really have a very nice line up for you to listen to.

I will be posting the podcast URL in my next entry with more details about our guests and of course our star hosts. Many of you might now them at Sun and I really hope you all you dig them during the show. Even our soung engineer liked them and let me tell you - he is one picky engineer!

Join me for a journey into the Sun.
