No viruses on OpenSolaris ...

It's a pretty bold statement that OpenSolaris has no viruses. I'm sure it is not totally true, but wouldn't it be great if you could use OpenSolaris to protect your virus prone windows files?

John Weekly recently posted a great document that covers how to tie together various pieces of OpenSolaris and other OSS to protect your files from viruses, in real time. John has posted the directions on how to use the new VSCAN service [see New OpenSolaris Project: VSCAN Service] from OpenSolaris along with the c_icap bridge and ClamAV to scan file in realtime for known viruses.

Now if you combine this capability with the in-kernel CIFS project you have a pretty powerful NAS setup. .... more on that latter ...

Thanks John!

PS: With John's permission, I've posted his document to the genunix HOWTOs and Guides wiki so other can update the directions with their own experience.
