Interactive Periodic Table

Where in the world was this when I was studying chemistry?

Take a few minutes and play with this interactive table of the elements, and then pass it on to your kids to help them with their school work. My hat is off to PopSci contributing editor Theodore Gray, who spent four years assembling this masterpiece.

Thanks to Craig Burton for pointing this out in his blog.

Think I must be missing the point... all it shows to me is that most elements look like indistinguishable lumps of rock, and therefore it's much easier to remember their symbol :)

It is the richness of the additional information beneath the surface that impressed me - many examples for each element, including photos of items made with each material, videos, sounds - a veritable cornucopia of information begging to be explored.
