Greatest collection of Yankee "Greats" ever seen together at one time
I tell my friends that I was born in pinstripes and never knew any other baseball team except the New York Yankees. My grandfather was a die-hard Yankees fan, so was my dad, and so am I. How can a Virginia boy be a Yankees fan? I say it has nothing to do with geography. It has everything to do with the what the Yankees have always stood for. They are the ultimate professional team, focused on one thing ... winning. 26 World Series titles is the fruit of that drive. Through high times and low times, they strive to win it all. Second best is never good enough. I can honestly say I wore my Yankees gear proudly through the "lowly" 80's drought, and through the late 90's legendary seasons.
I watched the pre-game tribute tonight, which is the last game to be played on the hallowed ground of the "real" and only Yankee stadium. Of course, the building is not really Yankee Stadium. The events and all those that made history are "Yankee Stadium". It was a great reminder to see so many baseball legends all together in one setting. It is probably the greatest collection of living baseball history that will ever be seen together at any one time. It made me very proud to be a life long Yankees fan, and to feel a part of something that has spanned some of the most important era's in American history. Whether you are a Yankee fan or a Yankee hater, I hope that we can agree that tonights tribute was one of those magical moments in sports history.
