I love Facebook. And? I hate it. I love that I can stay in touch with friends and family near and far. With video and photo uploads, status updates, and even the cheesetastic memes, I do feel more connected to people I rarely get to see in person.
However, when those updates include personal attacks on former friends (is this Jr. High?) or the photo uploads include snaps from high school or college that perhaps should have been kept in the storage container and not broadcast for the world to see? Then? Then I have mixed feelings.
Use Facebook to keep in touch. But don't use it as your only mode of communication. It isn't a substitute for the girl's weekend, or a phone call, or even a personal email. And it isn't a forum to air your grievances against another person (grow up and call them, mkay?) And for pete's sake if you really, really want to post old snaps? Post the ones that are flattering to *everyone*. Which, considering some of the fashion of the late 80's/early 90's would be a feat. :)

Don't know if you've heard but we helped kick off a little contest here at SXSW. At stake? 25K. The challenge? Design and submit a new application using JavaFX. Write Once, Screen Everwhere Baby! Mkay?
Trying to get a wireless signal this week has been harder than...than...than I don't know what. I've got tons of notes scribbled, typed, drafts saved, etc. So look for post-sxsw blogs to start popping up next week. With photos!

Had the opportunity to talk to an amazing group of folks who happen to be across from us on the trade show floor. Knowbility.org is committed to accessibility for all. A non-profit company, Knowbility serves people with disabilities, the family of people with disabilities, and all other committed to ensuring equal access for all. I was drawn to the booth because of a series of web properties that they were showing. They were very visually appealing. I asked what they were doing and that's when they told me about the work they do and the fact that they were asking for votes on the web properties displayed. All of them were built with accessibility in mind and all of them were beautiful...proving that one doesn't have to live without the other.
With 55 million Americans (and 750 million worldwide) living with disabilities, accessibility shouldn't be something that comes as a second-thought, and after-thought, or a non-thought. And accessibility isn't just for people with disabilities. Research shows that two out of three technology users benefit from accessible design. Something I hope y'all will keep in mind as you develop the next great web property.

Left my house at 5am. To get to San Jose. For a 11am flight. Now, in my defense, I live many many many miles away from San Jose. Whole counties away. And I wanted to be sure I had plenty of time in case there were any snaffus or long lines or traffic out the wazoo, etc. etc. Needless to say I find myself checked in, at the gate, on my laptop at 8:43am. Again, for a 11am flight. I guess I take better safe than sorry to the nth degree.

I'm not going to go into a lot of detail, but this has been a week and a half. There is a lot coming to fruition in the next few weeks around these parts and it is all hands on deck going 100 MPH. I'm alternating between loving the speed and hanging on for dear life.
