windows on solaris w00t? The true desktop

now how cool is this,

 

after the post from thinman  i just had to try it.

I got myself the latest nv build and upgraded my box, installed sunray so i can see the performance over sunray as well.

Installation is gonna finish pretty soon. Gonna do a follow up tomorow to tell how it feels.

I hope i can get rid of my windows install since i could run the necessary voip apps from within solaris.

The fact that you can now have the best of the 3 worlds on your solaris desktop is a major plus

Solaris+brandz+win4solaris just perfect!!!!!!!

Hey Yannis, so how did it work out? I'm setting up a Solaris box for my little sister and she needs to run educational software, e.g. vocabulary and grammar training, that's Windows only. Hopefully this is gonna work. So what's the performance like on what kind of hardware? I heard that it needs a lot of RAM. Too much for her smallish crappy PC. Not sure if win4sol runs on SPARC too. If that was the case, I could give her a Blade 100 or Blade 1000 with 2+ gigs of RAM. Greetings from Germany, Patrick

Hello patrick, as thinGuy sais no upstream audio as yet but they are working on it. On my laptop with 2gb of ram is rather nice, but then again as with every virtual machine performance is always related to what resources you are going to allocate and RAM is essential(similar to vmware,qemu etc) Unfortunately i do not know the roadmap maybe ThinGuy can comment. Will try to find out at some point this week.

Hi. I read about Win4Sol. But it doesn't show up at www.win4solaris.com - it displays only a directory listing. Where can I get it from?

Hello Peter, at this time and point it is internal only as it is a beta program. It should be released in the near future. I promise once it is released i will definately post it. -ip
