Thanks everyone!

JavaSE 6 is finally out in its glorious FCS bits. It's got all manner of cool new features (I particularly love the OpenGL integration that makes GLJPanel fly like the wind). Instead of the usual flag waving and "what's cool in JDK6" lists, I'd just like to say thanks to all of the folks in the community who have contributed to it. All of your error reports, feature requests, bug fixes, code contribtions and spec work are deeply appreciated. We couldn't do it without you. This truly is a community effort.

And what a community it is. Large corporations. Academic institutions. Governments. Private individuals. Organizations. All pulling together (well, mostly: there's a lot of diplomacy required). I'd especially like to highlight the folks who are members of JCP expert groups: working in one takes a tremendous amount of time and dedication. Permalink Comments [15]

I've written over 100K lines of Java and I still get excited about the features next release! Sometimes I just get peruse the javadoc for fun.. I'm hooked!

thank you James for bringing us such a great language , I love the new Desktop improvements and bug fixes in java Desktop, I love Swing !!!, Web 3.0 should be swing and java web start !!! Thanks again to all people that contributed to make this new release !!!

Great work people at Sun. The only bad things are that has turned over to the dark side by choicing for gpl and dynamic scripting languages. The problem was Linux (a his users), not Java. And the type safety that is missing in dynamic scripting is that worst feature you can wish for. Btw, Webtop is a great way to stay connected with your Java friends (and others offcourse), check out some great screenshots here!

Congratulations James! Java is very much alive and doing very well. I look forward to testing out 6 in all the areas i code with it and seeing those tasty performance bits I've heard so much about :)

Wow, thank you Mr Gosling for bringing us this sophisticated and charming technology. I'm a student in Java programming and i can't tell you how exited and happy i am to learn more and more everyday about Java!! It's an amazing language, it makes me dream even at nights ;) Congratulations Mr James Gosling, and to all the people that have been working to make this possible.

Being a part of the java developer community for so long, i am really happy that this has happened. now java is a consensus entirely.i know how tough this is for a company with shareholders on the market!! but as everyone feels, this is another giant step for mankind... james, it would have been really like re-creating another tcp/ip type of thing again all these years.you are really great.

Congratulations! The features of this SE release are interesting (webservices, better performance, better desktop support). I am starting to try it now. Kudos to the community.

hello there jim. i have one 2 1/2 hour exam to take for my java class. while working on a pset a couple of weeks ago, my partner dragged me to a nearby college for dinner b/c our dining halls had closed. it's like a freaking hotbed of nerds. like worse than your office. so anyways, we started talking about java, and one guy was like, yeah java's ok, but the other guy said, "java's soo sexy!!! everything works together and it's really beautiful!". he has a girlfriend, or so one of the other charming (and not socially awkward AT ALL) young men informed me when we were introduced. b/c i thought that was kind of cute. can't you write about something more interesting? like if i'm going to take more time to read this, the least you could do is write about koi or something. p.s.-the situation is dire. the food is not very good. i've lost weight.
