Internet access has been difficult here in Chitre, Panama. The PanamaJUG volunteers set up a wireless system in the hotel conference room but packets were always lost so we rarely got access. Most speakers came from outside Panama and were having trouble adapting to lack of email and the web. Most don't care about phone access but we've grown terribly dependent on the internet.

Over the two days, the number of participants ranged from 55-80 and consisted largely of a student population.

DAY ONE
Five speakers were on the program agenda. Gerardo Núñez Pitti, from Panama City, gave an introduction to Java. Tomasz Slota, from Sun Prague, talked about the new features of NetBeans 6.0. Agile software development with SCRUM reviews was presented by Stephan Schwab, a German national living in Panama. JavaFX, the hot new technology, was discussed by Augusto Sellhom, a Panamanian living in the US. The day was rounded out by Fabiola Rios, Sun Prague, who discussed programming with NetBeans Mobility.

DAY TWO
Caimito Technologies has developed a tool for Agile development, called Savila WorkBench. Yesterday, company owner Stephan Schwab gave an intro to Agile while Fidel Chavarria gave a demo of the Savila WorkBench. Sun Campus Ambassador from Chile, Rodrigo Andueza Gallardo, gave a good overview of Open Source and Sun University Ambassador programs. Brian Sam Bodden, also originally from Panama, but now living in the US, explained Business Rules using Drools. Tomasz Slota showed how to develop applications with NetBeans, and finally, I got to give a very brief talk about NetBeans and other Open Source Community Projects.

At the end of the day, there were two workshops: Drools and Mobility.
