Java By the Bay User Group

Earlier this evening, approximately 70 people got together for a Java By the Bay User Group meeting. The meeting was hosted by Vircon.

Sun took care of the pizza and gave a few presentations, Jeff Suttor on StAX (OpenOffice, pdf), Nick Kassem on Tango (PDF), Ramesh Mandava on JWSDP (OpenOffice, pdf). Dan Harlow & Vishnu Vettrivel presented on AJAX. Jags Ramnarayan of GemStone discussed caching issues.

like some personalization companies that focus on Rss and xml as "glue" and that need to observe fat pipe greyweb, we find that the front-end is not just parser. Additionally, we have 65% of the profiler load on DB inserts of meta-data plucked from rss Feed. 15 % of profiler is just caching all feeds in repository in FileSystem. 15% of profiler is ROME parser doin DOM. With this mix, the parser is not necessarily the weak link in end2end performance.

I tried to get into the event, however I was stopped at the door. The gentleman who escorted me out to the parking lot claims it was because I wasn't wearing a shirt or pants, but I believe these were just excuses to discriminate against me because I am a person of color.
