So who's going on this trip? Its me, Ernest, Julius, Jojo and Tom. I met these guys in college, though they've all been friends since middle school.
Our itinerary is to hit 9 baseball parks in 7 cities in 2 weeks. The first stop is Boston, MA so we can go to Fenway Park, the home of the Boston Red Sox. Its the oldest mjor league baseball park still being used today.
Me, Ernest, Julius and Jojo flew out late Friday night, had a two hour layover in Chicago and landed in Boston at 9:45 am Saturday morning. Tom had to fly separately and was already waiting for us at the airport. Once we were all together, we took the shuttle to the subway from the airport and made our way to the hotel. Our room wasn't ready yet so we checked in our bags with the hotel and set out for Fenway Park. The game wasn't until 4pm, but we wanted to check out the park and take a tour.
When we got to the area of the ballpark, we had an italian sausage in one of the food stands on Yawkey Way. And we caught the last tour of the day at 12:30. The tour was really cool. We got to sit in various seats throughout the park while gettng a historical commentary on the ballpark and other aspects like the scoreboard.
I can't post pictures yet...I'm using a computer in an internet cafe and I am having trouble reading the memory card from my laptop, but there's no problems seeing the picture from my camera.
After the tour, we went back to the hotel to check in and rest for a bit. Then we headed back to the ballpark for the game. When you get closer to the ballpark, you can immediately tell that Boston loves its Red Sox. There's so much team spirit - almost everybody was wearing a Red Sox hat, shirt, and/or jerseys. The baseball culture here is so much different than in San Diego and you can even feel the difference here and you're still only OUTSIDE.
The score sounds like it was a boring game, but that was far from it. The Red Sox fans were into every at-bat and every pitch of the game. The only run came from a Manny Ramirez home run that cleared the Green Monster in left field and the crowd went crazy. Every time it looked like the Giants were threatening to score, the crowd was there to cheer and back up their team. What a great atmosphere.
Best moments at the game:
After the game, we walked all the way back to the hotel. But we stopped and ate at Whiskey's Restaurant by the Prudential Center in Back Bay.
What a great day, especially with only a couple hours sleep from taking the red eye, and a memorable way to start the trip.
