I've been hitting many of the OpenSolaris articles (pro and con) as well as the discussions on OSNews and Slashdot. Many are praising OpenSolaris, many taking a wait-and-see stance, and many are simply naysayers. You can say that the praisers are religious and the naysayers are equally religious. You can say that they both have blinders on.

Here's my take. All of this chatter - pro, neutral and con - means that we have much ado about something going on here. What makes this chatter of considerable value to the industry is that it isn't about intangibles. Its about substance.

Sun had stated its intent and now is following through. I know why it excites many. However, I have *never* seen such *negative* press before regarding a corporation opening up so much value. I think we all know why it scares many. Some I listed in the first paragraph. But the others are better left unsaid. You do the math.
