Thursday June 16, 2005 I'm on the phone with a customer and the conversation was a bit like this:
John: ... and Java and XML we can .... oh my gosh ... EARTHQUAKE!!!. Did you feel it?
Customer: Nope, but I hear things rattling around on your end. But nothing here ... wait a second, we just got it. Must be moving north.
Yes, we California's have our very own special "can you here me now" and it's called "Did you feel it yet?". Of course, one occurance doesn't make a trend. The story isn't over.
I'm reading up on something regarding XML and Java last night and I get a call from my brother. In the background I hear my sister-in-law yelling "Run! Run! Run like the wind to higher ground! Why? Because of a tsunami warning. I rushed to the TV and turned on the Weather Channel ...
There is a Tsunami heading your way so why are you still watching The Weather Channel??
OK, a bit melodramatic. There was a scrolling red ticker at the bottom of the screen saying ... hold on ...Tsunami ... wait ... it's still ticking ... Warning ... still waiting ... is .... waiting with growing anticipation ...canceled. Whew!
Both instances had something in common. I was reading about Java and XML. Hmmm. I think I'll put down the book for a while.
(2005-06-16 14:44:09.0) Permalink Comments [2]I was doing the family thing last evening at a local high school. I walked up to a ticket desk to purchase a couple of tickets when I was asked by a high school student "Do you work for Java?"
The student was referencing the Java logo on my shirt. One of the benefits I had when I used to work in sales (as a geek, not rep.) was the endless supply of Sun and Java logo'd shirts which I still wear today. The good news is that he recognized the Java logo. Most likely from his cell phone. The bad news is that he thought Java was a company. We'll have to work on that :) (2005-06-16 09:33:14.0) Permalink Comments [4]
