The Barrier to Exit

Our CEO (Scott) has an article over at eWeek regarding the barrier to exit (which is never factored in to a TCO analysis). Note that Scott appropriately uses the phrase "Industry Standard" as opposed to the inappropriate use.

I'm loving ZFS

I'm really loving ZFS. I have put some zones on a ZFS pool. After uploading a sizeable file to one of my zones, the pool was almost out of space. The solution?

# zfspool add pool mirror c2t4d0 c2t7d0
# # Note, the name of my zfs pool is "pool" - proof that the left side of my brain consumes greater than half of my brain.

Yeah, that's it. Now any filesystem mounted under that pool simply see more disk space. No hassle, no pain ... until I run out of disks :)

The Portal Zone

Looks as if The Clingan Zone has no longer cornered the market on the Zone moniker at blogs.sun.com. Check out the Portal Zone to pick up good info on Sun's Portal Server product. It's a free download and free to put in production (sans support).

In honor of the Portal Zone, I will name one of my 190 zones on the ultra 10 to be "portal".

Come to think of it, I am going to instantiate a background thread to download Portal Server 7.
