Get started quickly with the Java EE 5 platform

We have released the beta version of a new tutorial called Your First Cup: An Introduction to the Java EE Platform to help you get up and running quickly with the new Java EE 5 platform.

Here is the HTML version:

http://java.sun.com/javaee/5/docs/firstcup/doc/toc.html

And here is the PDF:

http://java.sun.com/javaee/5/docs/firstcup/doc/firstcup.pdf

It starts off with a short introduction to the Java EE 5 platform and then gives you step-by-step instructions for building your first Java EE 5 application with the NetBeans IDE and the Java EE 5 SDK. This application demonstrates using enterprise Java Beans, web services, and JavaServer Faces technology for the web client.

Let us know what you think of it.

And you got mistake on pg.15, and here http://java.sun.com/javaee/5/docs/firstcup/doc/p4.html#gcrkq " AJava EE server is a server application that _THE_ implements the Java EE platform APIs and provides the standard Java EE services."

Hello StrangestFunniestPerson,

You can download the example from firstcup.dev.java.net. Click on Documents and Files and select the firstcup-1.0beta2.zip file to download. The example directory should already be in the download bundle. The myexample directory is the one you create while you're following the instructions to create the example.

Thanks for reporting the error. I'll tell Ian, my partner in crime, so we can get that fixed.

We appreciate your interest. Sorry for the delay in responding to your post.

>You can download the example from firstcup.dev.java.net. Yes, I've found it already by myself and google, somehow.

Maybe you can read my post about the problem I found using the firstcup tutorial.

WSDL Problem - firstcup tutor

Did you do the tutorial based on firstcup? If yes, maybe you can help me to give some hints. Thanks a lot.

Hi Jennifer; I really enjoyed firstcup - thanks. Though I am not sure whether someone completely new to J2EE would benefit from that (for this, the "click-here-and-do-that" approach of the document probably seems little helpful), it is a good starting point to see what J2EE 5 is capable of doing. And I am whole-heartedly amazed... :) Cheers, Kristian
