Das Fraunhofer-Institut für Umwelt-, Sicherheits- und Energietechnik Umsicht hat im Auftrag von Igel Technology, einem Hersteller von Thin Clients, die Studie 'Ökologischer Vergleich der Klimarelevanz von PC- und Thin-Client-Arbeitsplatzgeräten 2008' erstellt.

Recent tests by Neal Nelson, an independent computer performance expert, show that while some Quad-Core Intel Xeon based servers delivered up to 14 percent higher throughput, similarly configured Quad-Core AMD Opteron based servers consumed up to 41 percent less power. The test servers used 1 gigabyte memory modules at 4, 8 and 16 gigabyte main memory sizes.

Hallo,

hier mal ein kurzer Erfahrungsbericht über ein kleines aber tolles PC Soundsystem.

Durch Neugestaltung meines Büros, stellte sich vor einiger Zeit die Frage, was passiert mit dem PC Sound, weiterhin die „alten“ weißen, hässlichen und nicht gerade gut klingenden PC Lautsprecher verwenden, oder doch lieber was neues und klanglich Modernes anschaffen.
Ich entschied mich für was Neues und landete nach einiger Recherche bei den Lautsprechern von der Fa. Teufel.

Hier fiel mir gleich das Concept C 2.1 USB PC Soundsystem in´s Auge, ein PC-System mit 100 Watt Musikleistung, USB-Audio-Eingang, Fernbedienung, 3-Kanal-Aktivsubwoofer und 2 ultrakompakten Satelliten.

Der Anschluss des Rechners über USB (natürlich ist auch ein Anschluss über Cinch Buchsen möglich) ist sehr einfach und unproblematisch, dass Soundsystem bietet einige Soundeinstellmöglichkeiten und kann so an die Gegebenheiten des Raumes angepasst werden.

Der Sound ist sowohl beim Spielen, beim DVD schauen, wie auch beim normalen Musik hören absolute Klasse.

Der Subwoofer liefert einen äußerst druckvollen Bass, an dem sich so manche Heim Kino Anlage noch eine Scheibe abschneiden kann.

Die mitgelieferte Fernbedienung rundet das positive Gesamtbild dieses Systems ab, so kann das System auch ideal mit dem Notebook und USB Platte, oder MP3 Player im Party Keller eingesetzt werden ;-)

Wer also plant ein neues PC Soundsystem anzuschaffen, sollte auf jeden Fall mal bei Teufel vorbeischauen!

Virtualisierung und Deduplizierung sind Storage-Trends, die zwar im Jahr 2007 begonnen haben, aber 2008 wohl deutlich an Fahrt gewinnen werden. Neben technologiegetriebenen Ansätzen sind fürs kommende Jahr auch neue Richtlinien wie Euro-SOX und ITIL von Bedeutung.

Der Speichersektor bleibt ein dynamischer Markt. Neben der nackten Hardware werden Software-Funktionen ein strategischer und kaufentscheidender Faktor. Ein anhaltender Trend – neben der Tendenz zu mehr Online-Speicherangeboten.

Virtualisierung: Welle erfasst den Mittelstand
Virtualisierungstechniken als solche gibt es eigentlich schon länger. Sie verbessern zunächst einmal nur die Senkung der Infrastrukturkosten, die Flexibilität und Elastizität. Zusammen mit Automatisierungstechnik lässt sich allerdings die Effizienz von Ressourcen drastisch erhöhen, die Flexibilität automatisch den Anforderungen anpassen und Service ganzheitlich verwalten. Virtualisierung plus Automatisierung gleich Echtzeit-Infrastruktur – orakeln die Marktforscher von Gartner. Dazu kommt: Virtualisierte Systeme brauchen weniger Strom, es lässt sich möglicherweise sogar die eine oder andere Hardware-Kiste einsparen. Der »Grüne IT«-Gedanke hat damit die Virtualisierungsbranche noch mal so richtig beflügelt. Und urplötzlich ist es sogar ein Thema für den Mittelstand.

VMware has made the following changes and enhancements within VirtualCenter 2.5:

Manage active sessions - VirtualCenter 2.5 allows administrators to view all users logged in to VirtualCenter Server, terminate any active sessions when necessary, and send a message to those logged in.

Manage remote console connections - You can now configure VirtualCenter 2.5 to set the maximum number of allowed console connections (0 to 100) to all virtual machines.

Manage database connections - You can control the maximum number of database connections to be created between VirtualCenter 2.5 and the database server in use.

Lockdown mode - VirtualCenter 2.5 provides administrators with the option to disable direct remote access to ESX Server 3 hosts as a root user after VirtualCenter 2.5 has taken control of a given host. This is called "lockdown mode." Enabling this mode ensures that the host is managed only through VirtualCenter 2.5. Certain limited management tasks can still be performed while in lockdown mode by logging in to the local console on the host as a non-root user.

Virtual machine swapfile location - VirtualCenter 2.5 provides support for configuring a default location for virtual machine swap files for all virtual machines on a given host or cluster. The administrator can choose to store the swap file in the same directory as the virtual machine configuration file or select a datastore specified by the host for storing the swapfile. If it is not possible to store the swap file in the datastore specified by the host, the swap file is stored in the same folder as the virtual machine.

Licensing - VirtualCenter 2.5 provides an unlicensed evaluation mode that doesn't require that you install and configure a license server while installing VirtualCenter 2.5 and ESX Server 3. Also, the license server installed with VirtualCenter 2.5 supports multiple license files in a directory. Expiration user account - VirtualCenter Server creates a user account (the VIM account) on ESX Server hosts that are under its management. VirtualCenter Server assigns a random password to this account and stores this password in its database. In VirtualCenter 2.5, the password automatically changes 30 days after it was last changed. The default expiration age can be changed using the option manager by assigning a different value to the key VirtualCenter.VimPasswordExpirationInDays.

VirtualCenter 2.5 plug-ins - VMware independently releases optional applications that you can install on top of VirtualCenter 2.5 to provide additional capabilities. For example, you can use the VMware Converter plug-in to convert physical machines into ESX Server 3 virtual machines. Automating service behavior based on firewall settings―VirtualCenter 2.5 can automate services start up based on the status of firewall ports. Such automation helps ensure that services start if the environment is configured in a way that enables their function.
