Hi,

with nmon you can monitor the performance of AIX and Linux Systems and you can create nice Excel Spreadsheets and HTML Reports.

• nmon is short for Nigel's Monitor.

• This free tool gives you a huge amount of important performance information in one go.

• It can output the data in a number of ways

• On screen (console, telnet, VNC, putty or X Windows) using curses for low CPU impact which is updated once every two seconds. You hit single characters on you keyboard to enable/disable the various sorts of data.

• Save the data to a comma separated file for analysis and longer term data capture.

• Use this together with nmon Analyser Excel 2000 spreadsheet, which loads the nmon output file and automatically creates dozens of graphs ready for you to study or write performance reports.

• nmon is a single binary for each operating system, so installing is as very easy as getting the file in your $PATH.

• Why use five or six tools when one free tool can give you everything you need!!
  

You can Filter this data, add it to a rrd database (using an excellent freely available utility called rrdtool).
This graphs the data to .gif or .png files plus generates the webpage .html file and you can then put the graphs directly on a website automatically on AIX with no need of a Windows based machine. Directly put the data into a rrd database for your own analysis.

Eine interessante Beschreibung der neuen VMware Server Version 2.0 (derzeit noch im Beta Status) findet ihr auf der Seite von S. Ahnert, dem Buchautor von „Virtuelle Maschinen mit VMware und Microsoft“.

„...Hervorzuheben sind folgende Neuerungen, bzw. weiterhin fehlende Funktionen:

-    Bis zu 8 GB RAM pro VM, bisher waren nur 3,6 GB möglich. Hierbei ist zu beachten, dass mehr als 4 GB RAM am Host nur mit PAE  oder mit einem 64 Bit Host-OS adressiert
      werden können.
-    Offizielle Unterstützung von 64-Bit Gästen. Vorrausetzung ist eine CPU mit Intel-VT (im Bios oftmals disabled!) oder eine AMD-CPU ab Rev. D.
-    Unterstützung von USB 2.0 in den Gästen.
-    Bis zu zehn virtuelle Netzwerkkarten pro Gast. Leicht veränderte Netzwerkkonfiguration.
-    Weitere unterstützte Gast-OS, z.B. Vista (offiziell aber kein Vista als Host).
-    Anbindung von Netzwerk-Freigaben (CIFS, NFS) als externen Speicher.
-    Der Server 2.0 läuft jetzt auch nativ als 64-Bit Anwendung unter 64-Bit Linux. Bisher benötigte er 32-Bit Kompatibilität.
-    Völlig neue Oberfläche, die alte Remote Console funktioniert nicht mehr. Die Bedienung erfolgt über ein Web-Interface oder mit dem Virtual Infrastructure Client 2.5.
-    Weiterhin nur ein Snapshot, keine Teams, keine linked Clones.
-    Am Rande: (bisher) keine Unterstützung von VMware ESX in einer VM. Die Parameter aus dem Workshop ESX unter WS6 wirken in der aktuellen Version von VMware Server 2.0 nicht....“

The "Thumper" redefines storage performance....

"....The Sun Fire X4500, nicknamed Thumper, is a dual-Opteron server with 48 hot-swappable SATA drives in a single 4U chassis, achieving a raw total of 24TB with 500GB SATA drives. You could fit the entire catalog of the Library of Congress on a single X4500 — 2.5 times over.
