1 Million
As January 2007 comes to a close, we just achieved our first 1 million
hit month to the 177
OpenSolaris discussion forums. Yesterday morning at 6:30 am
Tokyo time, actually. I couldn't sleep so I was killing time poking
around the Jive admin database. Very cool. Congratulations to
everyone. And thank you, too.
In general, conversations about OpenSolaris on our ever-growing number of lists and forums continue to increase at a rate far surpassing even some of our recent predictions. Actually, we are about eight months ahead of our goal at this point. Well, the word "goal" is silly in this context because you can't artificially create a genuine community conversation just to collect a number and expect to earn credibility. So, I guess what I mean is that we have metric here that seems to reflect an interesting trend. We are building a community -- releasing code, taking putbacks, starting projects, creating infrastructure, (yes, more to come, we know) -- and the conversation numbers substantiate that a lot of people are interested in what we are doing and they are interested in getting involved. The rate of growth may be increasing a bit recently, but so far
we've been growing at a pretty steady clip since opening. Registrations to opensolaris.org doubled in January, too.

Not bad, eh?

>hey ... actually, we got the million just hours BEFORE the gpl conversation. :) Wild thread, though, eh?
Well, then, we'll hit the 2 million mark pretty soon... :)
