Nice to see GM growing a little backbone here -- GM, threatened by Toyota, vows to 'fight for every sale'. And not a bad quote here --  "We're going to fight to keep the position, and if we lose, we're going to fight to get it back." Most quotes like this fall into the category of embarrassingly silly spin, but sometimes someone has to stand up and say they are going to fight back. I doubt GM will win this particular round with Toyota, and I doubt Toyota executives even noticed the quote. Those guys seem a tad more focused on the customer, to be honest. But if there's ever a time for GM to totally reinvent itself, it's now -- while the attention is shifting to Toyota. And what if ... just what if GM backs up the rhetoric with a little performance for a change? What if GM actually builds a better, cheaper, more efficient car? A car that people love to drive, while at the same time sends a very clear message that era of gas stations (and the wars over them) is over.

Jim, LOVE their 2008 Malibu and CTS styling. Unfortunately, OPEL variants do not denote 'Made In U.S.A.' talents. Watch those 'entertaining' GERMANS, alas Mr. Diesel couldn't swim across those Atlantic waters during 1915 while 'off' ship mid-passage to America. The point, GERMANY (Da' state) does not share DIESEL technologies with any GLOBAL competitor. Production application of innovative technologies, such as ICE-Electric technology within 'Hybrids' until Fuel Cell wares are ready, shall certainly assist TOYOTA going forward. That said, HONDA 'lives' on GREAT ideas within all areas. Believe ASIMO was a fluke? NOT!

The serial hybrid (engine used to charge batteries) is a great idea but GM (and F / C) better hurry. Phoenix Motorcars is shipping all electric this year so waiting until 2010/11 for GM is silly. No "thermal runaway" with the new batteries from altairnano. There is lots of capacity on the current electric grid from 10 PM to 4 AM to charge all the cars on the road (should they suddenly all change to electric). Combine this with clean coal technology like greenfuelonline.com or eprida.com and we are set for the next 250 years. But that would be logical. Keeping the money in our country, cutting emissions way down and creating jobs. Who needs that? Our leaders own too much oil stocks!
