EeePC and OpenSolaris
Whenever I go to OpenSolaris events in Japan, I always trip over an EeePC. It happened again last week when I met Masafumi Ohta. He's got a blog at Blogspot and a channel on YouTube with a bunch of EeePC content for OpenSolaris users. If you are interested in this, you can subscribe to eeepc-discuss at opensolaris dot org, which is a new list associated with the Beijing OSUG and the Laptop Community Group. Check in with Robert Sohigian and Tim Foster on that list as well.
I'll have to get one of these things for my kid. She's already using my computer (my work computer, that is!), and we are now fighting over it when I get home every night. She likes to delete my emails with that big red "X" in Thunderbird. She likes to "click" on it. It's "fun" she says. Yah, joy. And this morning she almost emailed one of the OpenSolaris lists (with over a thousand people on it) as she hit "reply all" a few times. Scary. Time to get her a little laptop of her own. So, I'll look at the EeePC and see.

Thanks for the plug! And, it is definitely an Open email list. Folks are invited to come share their passion for both the EeePC and OpenSolaris

Hi,
This is definitely good news : OpenSolaris IS portable to one of the ultimate "coooool" geek gadgets (don't want to be offending but hey, let's face it) - so that should only be big time benefit for the project (for those who can read French : http://www.drzz.net/articles.php?id=90
Cheers.

Of course, OpenSolaris, Solaris, and probably your work computer too, comes with a screensaver / screen lock. Find one that your kid likes, and maybe she'll be turning ON the screensaver for you!
