OpenSolaris at CES
Nice to see OpenSolaris showing up in Toshiba press releases at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas -- Toshiba Integrates New Technology into Business Laptops and Announces New LED Projector on Display at CES 2009. Who would have thought, eh?

Great to see, the article wasn't too clear as to which models would ship OpenSolaris. I've already written to Toshiba ISD Australia to voice my support for the product being available here as well...if not i'll have to arrange delivery from the states.

Maybe you could advertise the security features of Solaris. Here in the UK there are often stories in the news about how laptops were lost containing personal data (customer names and addresses, credit card details, etc). With encrypted ZFS this wouldn't be a problem.

Che ... yah, I know the press release is not clear at all. Thanks for writing to Toshiba in Australia. The more noise we make the better.
Kevin ... agree on the security issue. ZFS seems to be a core part of the marketing of the latest distro release, although I have no visibility into the Sun/Toshiba marketing effort on these laptops during this pilot phase. Hopefully it will be higher profile when they ship globally.

Hi Jim,
I call on your intuition : any chance we get some of these in France w/ a French keyboard - you know : the AZERTY ? - just kidding, I know you cannot read in a crystal ball.
I shall try and drop them Toshiba France a buzz to see what they're up to.
Keep up the good work with building the community because OpenSolaris is a real great environment (esp. for all the Unix utilities) which deserves it.

Jean-Claude ... good idea. :) And thanks for pinging Toshiba in France. I don't know when the laptops will be shipping there (or globally), but when I find out I'll blog it for sure. And thanks for the good wishes for the community. I think we are making progress around the world now.
