Last night the Tokyo OpenSolaris User Group met for our first nomikai along with some Sun guys from the Tech Days confernce. Special thanks to Shoji Haraguchi for the shirts! We figured we`d make a bit of a statement by picking a color that would really show up in the photos. :)

Today was University Day at Tech Days in Tokyo. The Sun Campus Ambassadors were the stars of the show. There are ten CAs in Japan now, and they got to spend some time with James Gosling to talk software development, community building, Java, OpenSolaris, and having fun. That`s what it`s all about, right?

Here are day two images from Tech Days in Tokyo. Not as many today as yesterday. I was exhausted from late meetings last night so I just ran out of gas today.  James Hughes gave a great keynote on operating systems and multicore chips, and there were many other great sessions on Java and OpenSolaris. And at the end of the day, we gave away an Ultra20. I am still struggling to get my focusing and exposures right at 1.4 (so shallow ... I can`t imagine 1.2). But it`s fun and I`m getting better.

Here's the new OpenSolaris t-shirt (get the source file). Pretty cool. Just click on the shirt for the source to the artwork. We are sending thousands of these guys out as part of the new OpenSolaris User Group Starter Kits. Start an OSUG. Get a shirt.

Some shots from day one at Tokyo Tech Days. Lots of sessions and labs and demos and walking around talking to a lot of people. It was also great to see James Gosling again and hear about the many Java communities out there. Although we all think of James as a technologist, I have come to see him more as a master community builder and craftsman. A wonderful guy, too.

Tokyo Tech Days begins tomorrow, but we did show prep and rehearsals tonight. I only took a few shots. That`s James Hughes down there in the first three images. He`s a Sun Fellow and Solaris CTO, and he`ll do the Wednesday morning keynote on OpenSolaris. There are many tracks and speakers and there will probably be over a thousand people roaming around, so I`ll shoot what I can inbetween my work duties.

OpenSolaris on the EeePC is moving right along in Japan. See's Masafumi Ohta's post on the L1E/L2 driver from yesterday (and thank you, Murayama-san). EeePC discussions are going on at OpenSolaris right here, and the community is getting more and more active all the time. Join in. Also, Ohta-san will be doing a lightning talk about OpenSolaris on the EeePC at Sun's Tokyo Tech Days on Wednesday. Stop by.

Here are a few shots from OpenSolaris Day in Tokyo today. Many more images from the day on flickr. We heard presentations from Mitsuru Sasanuma, Russ Blaine, Rao Shoaib, Elaine Ding, Takeshi Asano, Akira Ohsone, and Reiko Saito. And SuHwan Jeong won the Ultra20 system to top off a great day with about 150 attendees.
