Hello World
Hello, World!
Who am I? Well, ain't that always the Big Question. In this context, I'm an engineer at Sun Microsystems, currently working on the Java™ programing language compiler (javac), along with others of the language tools team, such as Peter, Wei, Joe and Scott. On the compiler, I am particularly interested in tool infrastructure and integration. And, if you hadn't already guessed, I am the "Jon" that Peter sometimes refers to on his blog.
As a side project, I also work on the JDK™ regression test harness (jtreg), which is based on a test harness called JavaTest™, which I designed and built -- along with the rest of the JavaTest team, with particular note to Brian, Larry and Cliff -- in my previous job here at Sun.
These days, a lot of cycles are going into making stuff available as Open Source. Who wudda thunk it? At least it keeps life interesting. ---- And, in case you're wondering, I'm not the only Jonathan Gibbons in the J... community. So if you think I might be the other one, no, I'm not.

Hello back!
Well, javac and tests! I can't tell you how much of my life is spent building and running test cases in a variety of languages.
We want juicy gossip when Peter et al aren't looking, OK? B^)

It's nice to see that you started blogging! It's always been very interesting talking to you in your older days in JavaTest team and I hope this blog will be great too. :)
