Open Document Format (ODF) is now an ISO standard (ISO/IEC 26300).

Currently, ODF is supported by OpenofficeStaroffice, Koffice, TestMaker and IBM Workplace.   The best thing is, anybody can write their own application.  So, I won't be surprised to see more of such applications in future.

Microsoft has also submitted Open XML for ISO standards process.   The advantages of ODF is well known now and many organizations and governments are adopting it.   I wonder how Microsoft will push the adoption of Open XML.....

This wikipedia article has a good summary of ODF: http://en.wikipedia.orgwiki/OpenDocument
This link has good resources about ODF: http:/ww.spreadopendocument.org

Comments:

You've a broken link out there... http://en.wikipedia.orgwiki/OpenDocument should be http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenDocument (Notice the slash before wiki) ;-)
