JavaScript and JMX 2.0 Namespaces

No, rest assured - I have not conjured up some kind of new unfathomable hybrid beast from Dante's Seventh Hell... More prosaically, I have simply put together a small JavaScript slide show from some JMX 2.0 Namespace slides presented by Eamonn at JavaOne 2008.

A few days ago I had to create an internal wiki page containing an overview of JMX 2.0 Namespaces. One thing leading to another, it occurred to me that the easiest way to do that was to borrow some of the excellent slides on this subject from Eamonn's and Jean-Francois's presentation at JavaOne this year.

As I was fighting with the wiki syntax to find a way to display these slides in the best-looking way, I discovered that JavaScripts were supported. A quick internet search unleashed a few thousands pages related to slide shows and JavaScripts. After poking here and there - I finally ended up writing my own - and here is the result:

If you're more interested in JMX Namespaces than in JavaScript - then this is what you should remember: JMX 2.0 Namespaces are like MBeanServers within MBeanServers. They make it possible to federate several MBeanServers into a single hierarchical namespace - and in particular, they are the basis for implementing cascading solutions - where the sub MBeanServers are in fact located in a remote JMX agent.

I am not a JavaScript guy - and these are the first lines of JavaScript I wrote in my life - so I'm sure there are more elegant ways to do the same things. However, this works - here on this blog - and on my internal wiki page. And that's really cool :-)

Hope you enjoyed the show, and many thanks to Angad for his tip on using SyntaxHighlighter!

Cheers,
