What's new in Sun Java Directory Server 6.0
Today, March 1st 2007, Sun Microsystems released Java Enterprise System 5. One of the components is Directory Server Enterprise Edition 6.0. (DSEE6).You can download DSEE6 here
Read the docs here
Sun Java Directory Server Enterprise Edition (DSEE) comprises
- Directory Server
- Directory Proxy Server
- Directory Editor
- Identity Synchronization for Windows
- Directory Server Resource Kit
Here are snippets of what's new in Directory Server Enterprise Edition 6.0.
Directory Server
Server management
- A browser based administration interface
- Command Line Interface (CLI) which you can use to execute almost any command that you execute using the console. New commands such as dsadm, dsconf etc.
- Servers can be managed in groups, thus you can stop and start; modify schema; etc and many other commands to several servers at once.
- Global lockout - password policies and failed login attempts are replicated to all replicated Directory servers servers.
- A virtual view to read and update data aggregated from several LDAP Directories, Microsoft Active Directory, text files and Database sources
Scalability
- Unlimited multi-masters in a replicated environment. Compare that to only four masters in Sun Directory Server 5.2 sp4
- Leverages and scales to 18 CPUs
- Significant performance improvements for static groups and access controll.
- Prioritized replication
- Static group synchronization and account lockout/activation with Windows Active Directory
Directory Proxy Server
- Dynamic rule load balancing.
- Redirect operations to a specific server - for example send all password changes to one Directory server in your environment.
These and many more topics will be explored on this blog, stay tuned and feel free to RSS this blog for automatic updates!
