I can't comment on the merger but I like this article from CNET & Gartner. The article points out that the EU decision may have more to do with European tech industry protectionism than database competition.

I like the ad too (if you want to throw your opponent off by heckling), but being one of the idealistic sun "fanboy's" prior to the merger, I have to admit this doesnt win me back. Whats the future of open source at Sun? How much open source does oracle provide? Good luck all you good folks at sun, you are about to be assimilated into the oracle-borg!
