I've been a little slow blogging this mainly because of the amount of interest we are getting from customers, partners and our own field in two new remote services within the Sun Managed Operations portfolio that we launched on the 18th April. The first is our Systems Monitoring Package, this provides remote monitoring of hardware and OS by Sun's operations centers. As problems occur telemetry is delivered back to Sun where our 24x7 operations staff will create incident tickets and notify our customers. Customers get access to the ControlPoint portal along with ITIL based incident management processes. The second service builds on systems monitoring and adds Sun as the first responders to the issues. It's called Incident Response Package. Sun in this case will also remediate a set of pre-defined issues, again access to the ControlPoint portal is provided with the accountability you would expect from Sun. Both services allow you to view availability of the Sun servers being monitored, manage incidents and also suspend monitoring during scheduled change windows (this removes these windows from availability calculations and prevents Sun from responding to a planned change as a potential incident. Oh, and did I mention this supports Solaris and Linux ? (with more to come...) The flexibility of this approach really seems to be resonating well with the customers I've spoken with. You can start off with monitoring on a number of machines, elect for incident response on others and have an easy path to sun's managed operations services where Sun can provide as much or as little of your datacenter management.
