I've started to see QR codes popping up in all kinds of locations in the US (old hat I know in APAC). These are nifty little 2d bar codes providing around 4,000 characters worth of storage. Seems to be some interesting mashup possibilities blending traditional media such as news print with online services. Cant wait to see where this goes.

If your phone has a camera there is a good chance you can download a free viewer.  I've tried this both on symbian and wm5 both with great success.  Just start the app, point the camera at at QR code and then the action defined or text is decoded. Below is a QR code link to this blog.

Building your own QR code is easy as well thanks to a few helpful websites, my favorite is http://qrcode.kaywa.com/

Now if only I could get this printed on the back of my business cards, imagine what one could include in 4000 characters, not least a vcard to save everyone the data entry pain of managing contacts.
