Me voy a hacer eco de un artículo aparecido en el Mundo el 19.09.2009 por Carlos Fresneda.

"Hace 20 años, cuando el héroe de la bicicleta se llamaba Perico Delgado, tuve la ocasión de surcar Madrid junto a uno de esos ciclistas “suicidas” que luchaban por abrirse paso en la marabunta motorizada. El reportaje se titulaba “¡Aupa, Perico!” porque ése fue el grito unánime que nos lanzaron automovilistas y peatones durante nuestra proeza.

Indurain relevó a Delgado, y ahora tenemos a Contador, y no es de extrañar que nuestros “superhéroes” de la dos ruedas conquisten la gloria en los Campos Elíseos y prefieran circular en coche por la Castellana. Está claro que Madrid no es ciudad para bicicletas.

Ignoro si el señor alcalde se ha dado una vuelta estos años por el París del “velib”, o si ha tenido ocasión de subirse al AVE, rumbo a Barcelona o Sevilla. Tampoco le vendría mal dar el salto a Chicago o a Nueva York, donde el uso de la bici ha aumentado el 35% en un año, la red de carriles-bici llega ya a 650 kilómetros y en un día cualquiera se llegan a contar 200.000 ciclistas por las vías urbanas.

Hay una nueva manera de medir el progreso de las ciudades: contando las bicicletas.

Y lo cierto es que en Madrid las seguimos contando con los dedos de las manos, y hace   falta valor –“¡Aupa, Contador!”- para disputar el asfalto a los coches.

Madrid es sin duda la última del pelotón. Los 64 kilómetros del anillo verde quedan bien como “ornamento”, pero los kilómetros estrictamente urbanos apenas llegan a la decena. Al plan de movilidad ciclista le ha entrado una “pájara” por culpa de la crisis, y la ciudad sigue siendo tan hostil a las dos ruedas como lo era en tiempos del “¡Aupa, Perico!”. Y no precisamente por culpa de las cuestas y de los repechos, sino por puro desdén y falta de infraestructuras.

Digámoslo claro: Madrid no es ciudad para bicicletas porque no hay infraestructura para el uso y disfrute de las dos ruedas. No necesitamos más vagas promesas –“Madrid será la capital europea con más carriles bicis en el 2016”- sino realidades concretas como la de Nueva York: 200 millas de carriles-bici en tres años. Y ni un retraso más.

El alcalde promete “un Madrid moderno, amable y sostenible”, pero lo cierto es que la imagen que ofrece al visitante es el de una ciudad agresiva, ruidosa e insostenible. Con mejor transporte público y muchos más “agujeros” para tapar a los coches, pero no muy distinta a la que conocí y padecí en los años ochenta.

El espejismo fugaz de la Vuelta deberá dejar paso estos días a la reflexión y a la imaginación: ¿Cómo sería la Castellana si se cerrara al tráfico los domingos y los madrileños pudiéramos recuperar la ciudad para quien la camina y la pedalea?

A modo de despedida, me atrevo a sugerirle al señor alcalde que busque iluminación en “Elogio de la bicicleta”, del antropólgo francés Marc Augé, y se rinda finalmente ante la evidencia: “La bicicleta es el símbolo de un futuro ecológico para la ciudad del mañana y de una utopía urbana que acabará reconciliando a la sociedad consigo misma”. "

Long time ago, i spend two days with Radia Perlman. She come to Madrid for a security congress but in the meantime we went together to visit not only Madrid and around but also the University Complutense (fantastic view of the mountains completely snowed). 

She speaks two sessions about security and protocols, both of them were excellent and very interesting for students, some of them really interesting and cleaver ones. But for the teacher their feedback was excellent, they said "it's exactly what we are looking for this class..".

Apart of the sessions i want to post about my feeling these two days with Radia, for me was an amazing experience to be in touch with her, i think she's one of the cleaver minds in the world. Nevertheless, she is very close to people, very friend and very simple. (i mean familiar).

She makes me feel like a friend every time, even when we started to meet together into not a very good restaurant (it was my fault), we started a little cold but it began to be friendly minute by minute. she spoke at the University, chat with people and teach as it was her own class and she was teaching a regular day. Even she knows few fun tricks, it's excellent !!!

I hope you can check her books out ! (Books pictures are bellow)

If any of you can share time with her i recommend too much to do it. You don't need to chat about technology to feel she is a cleaver mind.

For me it's a fantastic idea create a new car generation, it's a great idea and a great innovation than GM  (important : in profit lost, helped by US Goverment) in partnership with Segway create this new generation.

Losses, companies,etc it's not my interest. But if Goverment helps it should be on this kind of things not to kill ourself in the future.

The new car called PUMA (Personal Urban Mobility and Accessibility) . According to "El Pais", in its article, GM has planned to develop comercial offerings of it in 2012. It works with ión-litio batery in combination with an energy intelligent system, two balance wheels, and low power level needs. It runs around 55km/h (36 miles/h). It's 56km autonomus. And it has a GPS device to avoid traffic jam.

The topic into : Boston Herald "...Segway and GM are looking for partners - cities or universities - to test the PUMA on designated bike lanes." Can Spanish cities or universities accept? airports? why not !!!....It's a joke now the insurance will be the trick!

The project into : Project P.U.M.A.

I hope this battery is near zero charge time one. And i hope also if it cuts cost 3-4 times we'll pay 3-4 times less.

I'm really worried about new generation in any life actitude, we have to save not only money, energy, time, etc but also natural life, natural resources. At the same time we have to both solve problems and solve our insostenible way of life.

Great for it !!! Moreover It's really cool !!! Is it a bike? is it a wheel chair? but it's out traffic ! If bikes runs on sidewalks&roads and motorbikes on roads, is it's going to be on?...... my point of view it should be on roads due it works with an engine, it's too fast and thick for a sidewalk. It should be the new generation of car and motorbike with eco efficiency engine.

I'll do !! for instance it should be by law in companies to pay eco car for employees.

For me is interesting to talk about the artical i have seen in our major news paper called "El Pais" (artical). It's "Google lost 365 mill € or 470 mill $".

In the article reference an study of The register. In this study we can read "....Which means Google's failure to "monetize" YouTube is down to one of two things. Either there's potential ad revenue for online video, and Google can't capture it yet...or there isn't, and the economics of YouTube means it will always be a liability on the wrong half of the balance sheet.....".

 In the Spanish news paper also references this in news CNET that Youtube look for an agreement with Sony to distribute their movies, but it seems complex due Sony has already signed an agreement with Hulu.

 In my point of view that is the topic "Google lost money due YouTube is not so many profitable". But what is the background of this? "Internet content freedom and legal right about content".

  Are we able to look for a new comercial model for contents? I think content providers (movies, songs, tv, even books....) are hard chain to this oldest comercial way to make business and they are not able to look for new free ways to do it. It the world we are living today they must look for an Open Content way to make business or they will die sooner or later.

  Why, if i'm a singer for example, can not play my music in concerts, record that music and share it free in internet. Maybe i, customer, has to connect throw advertising web page, maybe i have to register in some page, maybe i have to fill a survey in advance, or many other ideas.... Or in other case, you make the song for a movie or a tv comercial but then it could be free download for everybody (it just remenber everybody the comercial. why should it be bad? it should be really good for the comercial brand).

With books, for instance it could include advertisments into the cover page or back cover page, or if you are going to write about Paris you should be paid for Paris city council due you contribute the city recognition, or if you write about love for instance the restaurant, the wine and so many other things can be write them down with brand names and you will be paid for it. Then your book could be free.

  In summary, my opinion is, content is great, content is power and content is a brand itself you must to sell your content itself to make it profitable and then share the content as much as you can freely. When the consumer selects a content he consumes the feel, the brands, the cities and whole atmosphere you create for it.

 Has anybody think how many money has cathedrals won and will win thanks to Davincci Code? (even if it is not catholic at all). Should cathedrals pay for it? Should catholic pay every sunday when they go in the church? I think first answer is Yes, second is clearly No. I mean, the religion wins money with goverment, with museums, with weddings and many other activities; but it doesn't with content.

 Many movies works as religion. So many songs or singers work as religion. Win money with t-shirts, concerts, commercials, but your content should be free.

Please, debate on this, it's for sure a big topic.

Eiiinnnn !!!! Yesterday i listen the 30th Anniversary of "I will survive". It was at one of my favorites programs "all news" at Spanish national radio number 5 (RNE5), thanks to one of the best music pills i listen every day done by Antonio Díaz and his program "Soul, Disco and Funky" . It's one of my favorites songs from ever. I know there are many runners prefer "We are the champions" nevertheless i always prefer this one.

I look for more info about the song and why it's 30th and the story is really funny. The summary from Wikipedia ( ) :

"I Will Survive" is a song first performed by Gloria Gaynor, released in October 1978. It was written by Freddie Perren and Dino Fekaris.

The song's lyrics describe a narrator who finds personal strength while recovering from a break-up; it has often been used as an anthem of female empowerment, a gay anthem, and HIV/AIDS awareness - and is a firm favorite on the karaoke circuit. It is one of the most famous disco songs of all time, and easily Gaynor's biggest hit; it received massive airplay in 1979, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100, also reaching number one in the UK the next day.

Then it simple means that it was released at B-Side in 1978 and nobody listen it but suddenly it was relased at A-Side with a different name in 1978 and during 1979 it was number one. Dj airplay every discos and now days it's symbol of social recognition. It's one of the biggest song ever and it was Gaynor's bigest one. Everybody won an amazing song that gives to me energy to run faster, longer or it changes my feeling from cry to smile in a while.

Yesterday i listened an interesting new about how the down economy has changed our live. The issue itself is interesting, but what i interesting in is about changes. I mean, i search for the info and i try to explain my point of view.

This survey into Spain with people in the main cities and areas was done by Flora Institute via Quota Research. Next some conclusion of the study :

- Before the down economy 11% of the Spanish people was outside to take breakfast. After 8% is still doing it.

- Some areas like Andalucia (south of Spain) before has 25.6% and after even 21.4%

For me these ara amazing figures, i can understand, maybe don't like it, but i can understand people don't like to take any breakfast, ok, but if you take your first meal outside it's lot waste of time, lot of lack of productivity and even worst these days lot of money.

We're very proud of our Mediterranean diet, but at the end of the day, 11% of our citizens take first day meal outside.

- In the same study 42% of the people left pastries out of the breakfast menu, cookies 21% but amazing fruit 20%.

Please, if we has going to leave any you put focus into some wrong habits, fruit is not an election, even if the price is huge, take fruit juice instead of or event half piece of fruit instead whole one.

- Same study mention we left daily menu vs home made food. It means people has left the daily menu in a restaurant and push self cooked menu.

In this case i completely agree. It's more health, it's more productive, it provide me the opportunity to go to make sports in the meantime and it's a good alternative to combine work and personal life due if you spent less time in the restaurant you can finish your work before, then go home and relax with any kind of hobbies you practice. Then it means better life quality, better brain relax, better humor and better productivity at the end.

My point of view, we have to be similar of norther countries, all we should take are two little meals instead just one heavy one, even take it working and use you mid day time for sports, oriental philosophy or any other hobbies, or even go to supermarket. It gives you a break in you schedule/day time, relax your brain and gives you a plus in your productivity. Then you have to stop on time, go home, and increase your sleep ours (forget the stupid TV watch your program using internet or if you follow any tv series then download it from internet, watch it directly without advertisment and go bed sooner) in order to increase your next day productivity.

Even in a Down Economy we can learn and improve us !!!

And remember there people making money in a down economy, be smart !!!

Thanks to Enrique Dans's blog i found Urbanarbolismo an amazing arquitecture website with its blog by Jordi Serramia. I'm sure if someday i build my own house you will be one of my principal contacts. Thanks Jordi i follow your blog also. Please, politicians and builders of everywhere in the world look this ideas, study it carefully and make moves on this directions.

Now i watch this new on the blog, from other architect Alberto Estevez the project called  genetic Barcelona, where they are working to aply genetic to architecture. I cut&paste what Urbanarbolismo mention :

Several years ago we discover GFP protein, it's responsable of the light in several jellyfish. Alberto Estevez has been the architect who aply GFP protein in the architecture.

Phosphorescent lemon trees gleam in Barcelona. There isn't many words to say,  potential energy save?, easy way to produce it?  simple idea cost?. The pictures talk by itself. Forums looks opposite opinions about it. For me it's most important that this project it's not an utophy, it could be develop tomorrow and it means a radical change in architecture. Nevertheless i doubts any politic knows it apart of Barcelona one.

At the end my favorite sentence :

"Who knows, soon trees will be the best way to light our cities in a economic way. Afterall, we'll have a reason to plant them."

My point of view, first it looks pretty nice, it's a cost save effective for sure, but if i have to think as an ecologist what does it means?. Well, it's a new sub-group of trees human made, what in theory it's not good, but in the other hand is less contamination, less visual impact and at the end more trees means more oxygen, more forest percentage. Imagine by a while if all the street lamps will be replaced by "light trees". It really means too many trees, two many oxygen, two many potential birds, insects, worms, etc (biodiversity in general). But it will be so nice, i mean, will the tree be as a regular tree for itself, other flora and fauna?. If so, i'm completely enthusiastic !!!.

Another thing to long your life, read new and cool things to imagine the future, even closer !!!
