Noticed that OpenNMS, an opensource systems management software is the winner of the Search Networking - Product Leadership Awards 2007 for Network and IT management platforms.

I am impressed because they managed to beat HP (OpenView) and IBM (Tivoli). Pretty neat for an opensource product.

Comments:

I logged in as "demo/demo" and the thing blew up right away. They're using Tomcat, which means Java, which means "run away as fast as you can". It's nice that OpenNMS beat HP OpenView and all that, but thanks, no thanks. I think I'll choose SNMP, Nagios and Cactii for my monitoring solution, not OpenNMS.

Right, I dont dispute any of those. I am just happy that an opensource product beat the established closed source competition.

We're in the process of replacing our Nagios/Cacti setup with either OpenNMS or Zenoss. We've hit the scalability wall with Nagios, and we need something that handles traps more granularly than Nagios is capable of.
